I think it's because it hasn't used any of the old assetts, it's free, and they've made every claim possible to say it's unofficial
Plus I don't think Nintendo cares much about Mother anymore

Surprised it got the style so well, even if you copy a style like that it seems hard as fuck to look as good and they pulled it off. Everything looks great so far. Still wish they werent trying to call it Mother 4, I mean its not Mother 4, its fan made. Doesnt seem right imo.

Nintendo should work out some kind of deal to get it up on eshop looks very profesional

Itoi retired after 3, and we can all pretty much guarantee Nintendo will never make another Earthbound game, so does it matter? If Mother 4 is as good as it looks and does a good job of pulling off other mother games why not?
Ito himself said that he'd rather see a Mother 4 fangame and get to play it than jump through all the hoops to make an official one

Every Mother game, fanmade or not, has an amazing soundtrack.
Cool, they kept the level up music thing.
They seem to have gotten rid of the video demoing it though.

They are reusing Earthbound's soundfont in some of the music.
This game's existence is like, exemplary of the devotion and love that the Mother community has towards the series. It's truly a game that belongs to the fans. Nintendo don't look after it like they should, and so all the people who were touched by these games are giving them the care they deserve.
This looks so good that it feels almost criminal to be getting it for free.
I was disappointed to see this delayed from a xmas 2014 release to a summer one, but if they need time to perfect it, so be it.
I can see this being a classic in the making we can fondly look back on
I'll admit I didn't have high hopes for this game, but that plus the fact that it looks amazing makes me all the more excited to see it release.

This game looks to have more soul and care for the mother franchise than what an official sequel would entail.
The original developers for the Mother games retired, so who else better to take claim to the series than the people that have the most respect for it?
