Their insistence to keep using these lazy, mo-cap animated, ugly 3D models is a reflection on the Humanz album itself.
Lazy.

The song is catchy as fuck.
I still don't know how I feel about the mocap they've been using. I do like how Murdoc's model has a wonky eye.

I didn't think Humanz was as good as their other albums but I wouldn't use lazy to describe it.

im not a huge gorillaz fan but i dont really see the huge problem with the album
Love the Harpsicord in this song.
Also i honestly don't mind the mocap. It has a bit of a charm.
If they wanted better mocap they could afford it, I'm sure it's a stylistic choice as the entire video is highly stylized
If whatever the living fuck is happening at 2:45 is to be considered "charm" or a "stylistic choice", then I'll see myself out of this thread since I clearly don't belong here.
i think they used a vive to record this.
the way the hands open and close feels like that
Video aside, I can't get over how much I love this song. It's giving me Phase 1 vibes.
Gorillaz are lit right now.

This I'm not so sure on. One of the reasons Phase 3 was cut short was because EMI went under and the cost for the animated music videos was fuckin' expensive. This could be a way to cut costs.
I guess this is one of the songs off the Ultra Deluxe set
Love the song, but I can't get over how bad the video looks even if it's intentional.
intentional or not this video belongs in a dumpster, going "oh its stylistic" doesn't make it ok.
everything else they've made music/video wise, even the extremely simple stuff has been absolutely stellar. I can't consider anything they've made medicore.
except maybe Shaun Ryders drunken on stage madness, that was more hilarious than anything though

I'm still gonna say it's just a weird stylistic choice that didn't jazz as well as they wanted, like you said they've got the resources and budgets for crazy good art so it all comes down to intent
as a one-off it sounds and looks like a fun way to make the character weird and disjointed from its surroundings, and the way they played with it was clear they were going for glitchy unnatural nonsense, but it should have had a lot more going on the video to break it up. one guy standing there raising the roof to fill time between the more interesting bits

the video as a whole wasn't worth it for a few of these more inspired looking snippets
The track itself is great and the video is hilarious, but I don't think using it as an official music video was a good idea. It could have been just as bizarre and stylized if it was properly animated and it would have gone over a lot better with the casual listeners that aren't in the loop on Gorillaz. Like the video for Tomorrow Comes Today but more goofy and upbeat.

maybe I'm a dumbass fanboi but I loved the track and the aesthetics
I thought the video was hilarious.
I thought the video was hilarious.
I like to imagine 2D made this video in his basement when Murdoc wasn't around.
I'm gonna go ahead and say the get out of jail free card but this was a video made in-universe by 2D who is only one step away from being braindead
This honestly looks like the kind of thing somebody would ironically make to parody vaporwave.

I honestly don't mind the video. Damon has a large animation project going on in the background. IMO if I were to put meaning to the video; it's about 2D's fucked up visions he gets from his painkillers addiction.
I don't fukken know. Stop being anal about the video and enjoy the song, it's killer. Humanz didn't get enough 2D and if there are more of these, I will be happy. Bring on H Sides!
I just feel like Gorillaz at this point is fairly disconnected from the art that it's supposed to be connected to.
I mean I know there's going to be new Bitez coming out, but I still think they didn't do a good enough job connecting the art to the music. That's the whole point of Gorillaz right?
And by art I mean Jamie Hewlett's art. Not motion capture. Not toys. Not green screens in elevators.
Now when I hear Damon singing, I think of Damon's face, instead of 2D's.
[sp] I still absolutely adore this video though [/sp]
I dont give a shit about the video this track fucking rules why wasnt there more like this on Humanz
also I want Submission to get a music video, one of my favs off Humanz

However, I feel like Sleeping Powder is close to making that connection again. The same mocap 2D we see in interviews and promo videos is the same 2D in this video.
Damon also credited 2D during a live performance of SP.
2D's been feeling a bit left out on Humanz, so he made this new song himself on Monday and hes been keeping it from Murdoc.

it's meant to be avant garde and ~deep~
According to Damon the song was written Monday and the video was released, well, today. It's not supposed to be much of anything besides 2D fucking around with this song he made up because people were upset he wasn't prominent enough on Humanz.
I love the way he cuts himself off when the verses hit, especially the first one
i was gone- IM BACK!
man yall getting real worked up over an intentionally "graphic design is my passion" video
