E3 footage doesn't indicate final quality, water is wet, sun reportedly hot.
Footage is subject to change, but preorder now, though!
There's plenty of points to complain about Watch Dogs, but almost EVERY E3 video is ridiculously overhyped.
I like how at the 1:50 mark the pc version is blocked by a few npcs.
You'd imagine there would be something like gta, so you could push them slightly out of the way but nope.
The car crash sequence looks really scripted in the E3 Version.
Welp.

But ubisoft takes the crown when it comes to false advertising

I agree! But this comparison had some good work put into it (besides the very first bit with the difference in time of day) and it's still footage they use to build hype, which is still a bullshit move.
I like to think they lost an older version of the game in a freak accident, and had to remake it. It helps me cope better.
I like to think they lost an older version of the game in a freak accident, and had to remake it. It helps me cope better.
That actually happened with The Sims 2, but I doubt that's the case here. :v:
Oh, this is TES IV: Oblivion, all over again. For me atleast.
I wonder if somewhere deep down in Ubisoft's archives, they have the E3 demo version of the game collecting dust.
What was wrong with Far Cry 3?
That game kicked ass.

it still had a bullshit e3 video
i guess we should just expect this for games now.

They pulled the same shit. The e3 trailer looked better:

This, that game was enjoyable and very fun (the story is quite meh to say and the characters are uninteresting aside from Vaas i guess but the game excels in the gameplay side most memorable moment was for me climbing the last radio tower) same goes to blood dragon which is pretty much FC3 with everything unlocked and neon colors everywhere,
AC games have gotten like a chore mostly since I'm sure everyone only plays it for the story and nothing else but the gimmicks tries to keep it fresh i guess.
I personally won't play watch dogs due to the whole (oh your crosshair is on a pedestrian let me show a randomly generated quote) Also cluttered UI and text everywhere all up the ass, no thanks, gta iv is simple/gta v is simple (from what i've seen)/saints row the same and sleeping dogs (have yet to play it) too,soo learn it.
I hope the division ends up being a better product.

while that video is true, one thing bugs me
any time I jumped in water in FarCry 3 in the game itself, it did the dive motion of the E3 footage.
i'm tired of the e3 pump up videos being full of shit, but at least FC3 was a good game
and AC4 was actually a great game too now that I think about it. It ran really, really well on my rig, and was a shit ton of fun to play.
I'm afraid for The Division, but dear god do I want that game to end up right.
I don't really get the complaints when compared to the bullshit that was Dark Souls 2.
Ubisoft showed people what the game actually looked like prior to release.

How about we go further back to 2011?

I would get a comparison video, but they also changed the layout of the level - it's impossible to make one. I still like the final product of FC3, but this looked pretty god damn amazing.

I think Gearbox took that crown with Colonial Marines.

This happens all the time.
I feel like if Ubisoft didn't need to put their games on every system under the sun we could have games that look about as good as their E3 demos. But no, Ubisoft has to lash themselves to the cement shoes of the last gen when they dive into game development.
A real shame considering they're the one AAA publisher who consistently puts out new games and improve their series rather than playing it safe all the time.
I miss the days when trailers didn't look as good as the final product, and not the other way around.

that never happened
Guys, it's E3...fucking E3. E3 is nothing more than a dog and pony show giving the consumers the absolute BEST that they can muster so you can buy their products later in the year. Of course it's not going to look as good, of course it's going to be toned down because they spend months on this single vertical slice.
Most likely in the case of the video that entire scene from the 2012 watch dogs was in a map all by itself, scripted AI, scripted traffic and could have been running at 10FPS! I can assure you, we will see some amazing stuff later in this generation in terms of graphical fidelity, but right now we're in the growing pains. Developers are having to re-learn how to produce content for the power they have available. By the end of the last generation, it was absolute hell trying to optimize for the 360 and PS3. So developers are still in the mind set of that, creating tech, assets and games that are trying to be as optimized as possible, so it will take time for engineers to really take advantage of what the hardware has to offer (this happens every generation, why is it a surprise now?).
It's been a huge marketing ploy by the publishers to push this idea of NEXT-FUCKING-GEN and we are not there yet...I'm afraid it's going to take a year or so to get there. Yes UbiSoft was trying to push the idea that Watch_Dogs was the first NEXT-FUCKING-GEN game but it didn't live up to the hype. There is no stopping a publisher from giving the idea that this game, this fucking game is the best shit ever and you should dump all your money on it, that's their job! now, you can take it WAY out of line like Aliens Colonial Marines, but at the end of the day that's what they are paid to do. I'm not saying that it's right, but that's the fact of the matter. Trust me, developers want to give players the best possible experience ever, but publishers are going to always be there pulling the strings and tightening budgets.
With that being said, publishers are not the devil (not in most cases). They pay for things that would other wise not be possible! hell, Ubisoft delayed Watch_Dogs at the last possible second so they could add extra polish.
All in all, just give it time guys. Yes they are going to advertise the best shit ever, but that's their job. Devs want to give you the best product available, but with technology restrictions and development restrictions, it's just not possible with some studios. ((also if you're really curious about the dev side of things, look up Physically Based Rendering. Right now the industry is having to completely re-think how they render materials and textures within games so that's certainly not helping!))
that never happened
It did in some cases. MGS4 looked a lot better when it was released (and not just because they removed the yellow), 2 years development time made a large difference.

I know we're going to see some serious "next gen" games coming out(Infamous Second Son is pretty amazing looking to be honest, and what I saw of Ryse was also great) from further optimization and work on the consoles. But i'm curious and a little doubtful if we're going to see the same extreme of improvement that we eventually go with the 360 and PS3. Just in terms of comparing their early titles to the most technically efficient titles they ever held by the end of their life times, that's a massive, massive increase in fidelity and quality visually speaking. Will it be the same massive increase over their lifetimes? Will it be such an impressive jump?
I hope it will. I bought a PS4, I do really like it, but i'm really curious. Already with a game like Second Son, it feels like it's pushing pretty hard on the system to achieve it. But we'll see. I'm hopeful though skeptical.

I dunno, that level looked different, but just about every damn part of that gameplay was accurate to my own FC3 experience.
You also have to remember that E3 is primarily an investor show, and you don't get investors to throw around the big bucks without showing something amazing.
I remember in the special features disk of Halo 2 Bungie spent something like 3-4 months working on an E3 demo and absolutely none of it was usable ingame, they had to throw the entire thing out after E3 and work on the game properly, which meant they basically spent 1/4 of a year working on nothing.

E3 isn't good for that reason.
It hurts the industry to waste time doing something like that. To waste their efforts like that.
I remember personally being let down by Halo 2 quite a bit. Multiplayer was good but I wasn't in love with Halo 2 like Halo 1.

Ryse and Infamous are pushing the systems hard, but that's largely due to a lack of optimisation. Early games on the 360 and PS3 pushed those systems hard too, but that's because they have to brute force everything. Look at Uncharted one, and compare that to The Last of Us, that's the kind of difference we'll see when we reach the end of this console generation.
In 2022 we'll be looking back on the Witcher 3 and we'll be saying it looked like shit.
the differences are mostly post process stuff, though (that, and well, the mission changes, and the lack of the pre scripted sequences with the huge car crash and so on, plus what seems to be global illumination), and a different shader for the streets.
nothing ever looks as good as the promotional material does though?
