Pretty much confirms this is going to be basically Sim Suburb (can only build next to roads which means cities with a pedestrian/public transport focus are impossible, cities develop in a very suburban fashion, all cities are restricted to a small 2km X 2km plop of land, etc). Disappointing but at least they are doing some really cool stuff on the simulation side of things.

So basically the smallest plot of land in Sim City 4 is much larger than this game's largest Fuck that
Okay, single-player regions are possible, that's a relief, but no terraforming...you've got to be kidding me. It's one of the most powerful and beloved tools in SimCity. That was the biggest pain in CitesXL (besides the clunky engine), not being able to level a small area for housing or build a river to help with marine traffic. - Also nice to see that bus stops are now by default attached to the road, the only was that was possiible in SC4 was with transit-enabled addons. But of course they had to mess it up. Seems you can't place the stops in front of lots, which kind of makes it impossible to use them in high density parts of your city. This issue was also in SC4 with the transit-enabled addons, and I would have expected Maxis to deal with this for the new SimCity. - Origin exclusive pre-order bonus items for Sims 3 :v:
Uhhhh...
I hope we can expand or go to another city without having to load the region again. I am fine with that, would make sense to start small and expand to bigger land.
The map size is smaller, but I think its more that the buildings are a little bigger, there is more space around everything. I do not mind cities being small, they look like they can cram in a good city in those maps and you can always expand and make plots around your city be like suburbs.
I mean it looks good and all yeah It's just that it feels like SC5 is inferior in many ways, to the point of me going "Why bother when SC4 did better in X number of ways, and the inevitable sequel will end up being just like SC5 except without the stupid limitations?" Its just that they make an inherently boring setting (american dream suburbia) the main thematic focus of SC5, in what seems like some kind of desperate attempt to appeal to the majority of americans who live in such settings. Why can't I have a sim city were I basically make rome, or a pedestrian-focused city, or etc? Especially since, in SC5, they have all this incredible simulation level stuff that actually simulates pedestrians, traffic, etc in real time. It would have been PERFECT for it. But instead of going into the route of being able to make a multitude of city planning styles in addition to the main focus of your city (i.e. industry, commercial, etc), they just made it as basic as possible by making it a dream-like grassy suburbia as the only thing you can build. I want a sim city where I can build goddamn dubai in the middle of the desert as well as a mountain villa on the side of a hill. Not this "It's like Sims, the "American Dream" simulator where you can make your own dream house, except now you are making the neighborhood (but not actually making the buildings or anything, which is the whole appeal of Sims)!"
BRB finding my old copy of SC4 Deluxe edition now.
That guy in red is a terrible interviewer..
BRB finding my old copy of SC4 Deluxe edition now.
That's what I did. Much more satisfying anyway. Making a profitable city in SC4's easy mode is going to be much fucking harder than SC5's hardest difficulty I can already tell
They seem to avoid quite a few questions in there, such as the one about oceans and etc.
It does seem like you can make towns, not cities. Which sucks. It looks like they've sacrificed too much in order to make it look satisfying and appeal to a larger audience.

It has all the game play of 4. Even more than 4 seeing how every car is persistent now. It looks smaller, yeah, but it also looks like it has more content.

+ persistent movement/cars + persistent individual sims + modular buildings + heavily extended interaction between cities It's a different game, comparison for more or less is useless.
