Yup, definitely getting those vibes. Looks pretty solid.
Really excited for this, the first game surprised me in just about every way possible and felt like a great tribute to the Sonic Genesis games.
Glad that they refined the art-style of the anthro characters so that it further sticks out from the series' Sonic ROM hack days. Also: that remix of Pangu Lagoon (i.e: the best tracks in the whole game).
I'm really liking the more mature artstyle here. Not that i had problems with the first game. The first really surprised me on how classic-Sonic like it felt. So i'm really interested in this sequel.
The voice acting and story were probably the two most off-putting things about the first game, so it'll be interesting to see what happens since they're putting even MORE emphasis on those.
The collectible Navi-like wisps look like they're going to have similar functionality to the Shield power-ups, including those of the elemental variety that were introduced in S3&K.
Looks like a reskin of Sonic... :s: Why are you guys rating me dumb? Just because I pointed out it looks and feels like Sonic that makes me dumb... it looks and feels like Sonic with a different character.
The artstyle reminds me more of the Sonic Advance series than the Genesis version, with the more realistic proportioned characters. The multi scaling boss fights is a very Genesis-y thing, someone mentioned Gunstar Heroes . Another notable one being Castlevania Bloodlines.
Looks like a reskin of Sonic... :s:
That's what the game is trying to archive, have a similar feeling to older sonic games but still be original and interesting.
I've heard people say that Freedom Planet was like a Sonic game for Saturn, at least in terms of graphics.
The voice acting and story were probably the two most off-putting things about the first game, so it'll be interesting to see what happens since they're putting even MORE emphasis on those.
The game has a classic mode that allows you to play the whole main campaign without any story element.
That's what the game is trying to archive, have a similar feeling to older sonic games but still be original and interesting.
In terms of level design it's like older Sonic, that's for sure. Sonic's not meant to be solely about speed, after all. Having the levels be interesting to navigate was, from what I've heard, what made the older Sonics so good, striking that balance between linearity and openness.
I actually prefer the more chibi/Sonic-like artstyle the characters had in the first game. Just my opinion though, I'm still gonna pick this up because the first game was amazing.
Honestly the first game was less like a Genesis title and more like a really polished Sega Saturn / Playstation 1 title, from the music and graphical style to the boss fights and rapid action gameplay. The second one seems to be expanding on that further with graphical detail and quality that is going absolutely crazy.

All amazing games of the Sega Genesis. They're really doing it with the animation, it's looking fabulous. I dare say a bit close to Sonic Mania's animation (That has the best sprite animation I've seen in a good while). Does anyone find the game really uncomfortable to look at? All the art layers are fighting for perspective and it makes the overall ambience very jarring. I have much more concerns for the sequel but at least the gameplay department is looking great as before.
Luckily they made a Classic Mode, hopefully they follow that with FP2, that removes all cutscenes so it's more like Sonic.
It didn't remove all cutscenes, it just removes the dialogue and cleverly abridges the scenes to jump ahead to the next level without leaving the player completely confused to level context.
So I just checked their website, I have to say they have good voice actor!
I absolutely adored the first game, from the game play to the characters. I'm excited to see what the other characters look like in action (especially Carol)
The game has a classic mode that allows you to play the whole main campaign without any story element.
That would drive me crazy, I'd never be able to bring myself to cut myself off from part of the game, and yet the story would annoy the hell out of me if I didn't.

Carol was just posted: The new motorcycle animations are cool as fuck.

Except the difference is FP is a good game.
If anyone wants to know, some art for the game (such as the character pictures in the video thumbnails, for one) are done by this guy.
I'd say this looks less like sonic like the first game, and more of the type of old 2d platformer games that tried competing with mario and sonic ex.bubsy. Maybe something like jazz jackrabbit 2?
Tbh, I get more of a Ristar vibe from the gameplay than classic sonic.

Carol looks like she doesn't have to rely on the motorcycle, unlike the first game to a certain degree (I found her harder than Lilac and Milla) From the looks of thing, next week video is going to be Milla, and then the week after the Demo with all 3 character.

This time around she does seem to be UP as well, comparing to Lilac: + Lilac has gained some invaluable tools as such Boost Breaker, jump uppercut and cyclone not costing energy, giving her incredible air sustain and being better at almost everything. - Carol lost her wildkick (dmg and invin-on-demand) and probably jump pads in favor for Jump Disc and faster normal strikes. Yeah her new special makes her a vertical beast but I doubt it alone is enough to carry her to "balanced" status. Unless her damage output is tripled I still find Lilac and Milla (who I think gained normal strikes and cube charges, more details next week) to be vastly superior. A shame, she's the second best cat in my book.
