That camera is very interesting.
I remember hearing about a concept for a camera like that a couple of years ago now. Never thought it'd work quite that well, it's very impressive.
I wonder if that means you could have theoretically infinite resolution, after all it is just radiosity data, smoothing that when scaling the picture should be nicer looking than pixels.
Does Project Morpheus have similar features as the Rift? This video definitely didn't sell it, considering all the videos I've seen of the Rift has been of people who are suddenly stunned by how real everything feels and how large things seem - they point out all kinds of things that makes me think the Rift changes everything... Does this do that, too?

It's basically a Rift but for the PS4 from the details we've had released. Similar idea, different implementation. Of course this video isn't going to sell it properly or anything, they had a few seconds of dicking around with it and cheesed it up massively for TV, when Sony start rolling out proper demos of it we'll see how it compares to the Rift. But considering it's the only VR headset on the PS4, Sony likely put a decent amount of effort into it.
I don't see how Sony is going to pull off the peripherals though. The Oculus has been shown with a ton of cool input methods, and Sony currently only has the old Move wands.
The camera is more interesting :v:

You couldn't have infinite resolution when a finite number of photons are reflecting off of an object.

I was more using it in the context of scaling. Assuming all the captured radiosity data is complete, and not just sampled to a certain degree (for compressions sake), scaling up the image with the data might not cause artefacts and such to the same degree as a bitmapped image.
Kinda like how vector graphics work, but for light data. You have a finite amount of data, but it's flexibly defined enough to do a lot with it.

the pictures it takes are actually just made of pixels with an extra dimension of depth/vector information
[editline]8th June 2014[/editline]
it says it records rays of light which is sort of correct but also somewhat decieving, this explains it better
Jimmy's reactions were priceless. He was so excited he was screaming and hopping around :v:
Would have actually been impressive if it actually showcased a demo suited for it, instead of stuff we already seen 100 times with the PS Move.

Ahh that is a much better explanation. Thanks. So it's mostly just depth info, which is still very cool in what it allows us to do with the photo. Kinda like having a photography-grade Kinect in your hands.
This really showed absolutely nothing about the morpheous.

what exactly do you need to see? it's a VR headset on par with the rift.
the video pretty much sums it up.

You are really dumb if you think that was all you need to see.
Does it have Z axis control, does it actually provide a better fov/realistic 3d, what is the latency of the device, what is the resolution.
is that a photo of peter dinklage on the desk
haha it is what the hell

You are really dumb if you expected to see that shit on Jimmy Fucking Fallon...
I haven't seen textures that shit since like 2005 or something - it's probably actually running on a PS4.
Seriously, the models in Unreal Tournament 2004 have like 2-3x more detail.

its a demo for a vr headset who gives a shit about textures
I like how the Verge guy is trying to follow a script and Jimmy's just going with it, so the Verge guy sounds really awkward when trying to talk points
Jimmy's flailing his arms, "THIS IS WHAT THE FUTURE WILL BE LIKE"
