Easily one of my favorites games ever, and the closest to a 10/10 game I've ever seen.
The game should be on the Switch
I've never played it, but I hear about it all the time. Just looks like a flash game you'd find on Kongregate to me.

Experience a game before you shit on it lol

The remake does have some elements that fans of the original aren't too fond of. Playable Tunnel Man and Damsel, the way that wall-gripping required an active input rather than merely being near the wall, enemy/item interactions such as spiked shoes with mantraps, the way that darkness functions, and how the classic artstyle lended itself better to contrast with the background. There are definitely improvements overall such as more consistent enemy AI (spiders being the most notorious), the extra side stages like the mothership, some extra weapons and items, functional co-op (although the camera sure doesn't help) and of course the extended full-game route that extends beyond Olmec. But those previously mentioned can strike a sour spot if you've played through both versions extensively.
I will say this though, the art style in both iterations didn't exactly stand out on its own. Rather it felt homogeneous to the trending style of the time of release. The classic artstyle was a bit on the simple side but offered good color contrast, while the HD remake added in visual effects that could be seen as clutter that'd make discerning certain traps more difficult to do. The transition between classic and HD felt as if there was a lost roughness to the art that I personally had grown fond of. It felt a lot more clean, but sometimes having that grit is what makes something feel more appropriate. But on either side of the coin, the resolution of the art didn't really stick with me -- it's the memorable character designs that did that, something that didn't change through the transition.
What he said is obviously dumb and I'm not defending it all. But I can kinda see where the statement regarding the artstyle is coming from.

I'm not shitting on it? Just said why I never bought it.
Sorry to offend you all, gosh. D:

Saying that you never bought it because you somehow magically knew that it was gonna be incredibly basic and simplistic is shitting on it.
i think the worse crime here is you talking shit about kongregate
I'm not shitting on Kongregate either! That's just the first flash game hub site that came to mind.
I haven't used Kongregate in years but I love it. I was just saying I never bought Spelunky because it reminds me of games you could play for free.
Ah I'm just digging myself a hole here aren't I ;-;

Well it's still shitting on it and you didn't really say that's why you didn't buy it

It reminded you of those games despite not having played it at all and for some reason ignoring everything anyone has ever said about it?

No, just advertisements and such. I haven't really delved or read anything up about it. Nobody I know has ever played it so it's not like people are telling me it's great and I'm plugging my ears. I just saw an ad and wasn't interested enough to check it out. Is that a crime?
Spelunky Classic still exists as freeware if you don't feel like making a purchase before knowing what you're getting into.
Well it's still shitting on it and you didn't really say that's why you didn't buy it
So I'm being lynched because I used the word "played" instead of "bought" in my first post?
Bottom line is, I'm not hating on the game, just said why it didn't interest me. In fact, not a lot of side-scrollers interest me. It's just who I am.
The way I worded it might seem harsh but that's just my poor articulation skills, I don't mean anything by it honest.
You can say "well you were still shitting on it" all you want, it doesn't change what my actual intent was.

So you thought going into a thread to say that you hadn't played the game and that it looks crap was a good thing to do lol?, ofcourse express your opinion but this is just stupid

What was the point then? What's the point of going into a thread about a game just to say "I don't care about this game"?

Idk, I was expecting a "No, here's what the game is really like and why it is adored:" type response. But I guess I just came off as a harsh asshole I'm retarded I'm sorry

Well I'm just gonna say I don't think it looks like crap and stop talking because I'm shit at this.

I mean the video kinda explains how the game is and from other peoples perspective, mostly from the devs yeah but still

Why should we have to explain everything about the game to you when you can just look up one of the million reviews of it or even just watch the goddamn video this whole thread is about?
Because I like forum discussions thats why I'm here :(
Chill the fuck out mates. He's not molesting your cereal he just said it looked a bit like a flash game. He's not even wrong, either, Spelunky is fucking awesome but it does look like a flash game.
This is actually the closer to a series of documentaries NoClip did on games with mysteries.
