can't say that i didn't expect matt to talk about poison for half of the video
[editline]5th July 2014[/editline]
and wow holy shit i feel stupid for not realizing that guy and cody in SF IV were from final fight.
P.S.-
Don't read the comments.
Not a lot of interesting stuff here, mostly just where the names come from and trans Poison.
he pronounced fugazi incorrectly

I wish Shane(I believe that's the scriptwriters name?) hadn't continually wrote "he or she" in regards to poison seeing as how, even in japan, she's still a girl with a dick. Hence new half.
Some pretty interesting stuff otherwise though! Had no idea about anything from the latter half of the video.
[editline]why?[/editline]
I fail to see why pointing out something factually wrong in a video about facts is dumb..?

Please don't bring the argument here.

I wasn't bringing any arguments up..? Just pointing out the writing was wrong for a factoid video. Newhalf means girl with male genitals.
[editline]5th July 2014[/editline]
I did not even notice this was Matt till the end wtf he sounds so different

I'm just saying, the entire comments section is just filled with a shitstorm of comments about Poison and her gender, I just don't want it to be brought up here.
lol the youtube comments - pathetic.
It's amazing how I didn't realise it was matt from two best friends because he wasn't shouting.
Please don't bring the argument here.
he or she = 3 syllables
they = one syllable
even if you ignore ~THE ARGUMENT~, its easier and less confusing to just say "they"
he or she = 3 syllables

wow it's almost as if one of those is singular and the other one is plural.
[editline]6th July 2014[/editline]
and don't argue about using it as singular, because then it's implying "they" are gender neutral, which poison isn't.
[editline]6th July 2014[/editline]
you literally try to start this type of shit everywhere any sort of lgbt or transgender or w/e is being talked about.
Dear god please stop this.
Dear car please stop this.
Fixed for the international release.

Yeah but he constantly points out that the newhalf terminology is only used for the Japanese version and not for the other versions in which she's not mentioned as a dickgirl but as a post-op transgender woman, hence the "he or she".
[sp]Poison is hotter with a dick between her legs anyway[/sp]
he or she = 3 syllables

Except you should only use they if you don't know the person's gender. In this case Poison is a she regardless of if she's transgender or not.
It's amazing how, despite the fact that you always bring this shit up even if it's got nothing to do with the discussion (like here), you still don't even know what you're talking about.
he or she = 3 syllables

Except that using "they" for one person is grammatically incorrect. We ought to have gender-indeterminate pronouns for this crap
Who the hell cares anyway. I'm pretty sure Poison ought to be considered a female, trans or not.
Anyway, to get more on topic, I don't really have a history with the Street Fighter series; I only ever played SF4. It's just intriguing to me to hear about all the history behind this game, since the series as a whole was kind of revolutionary. I knew Guy and Cody were from some earlier game, but not Poison or Hugo or Rolento. And from a spin-off title, no less. Shows what I know.

While I agree wholeheartedly with your spoiler, if she's a post op transsexual in the US and EU then she's still, even legally, a female. Same for Newhalf basically. I mean it's a small nitpick don't get me wrong but if you're going to right about one of video games most talked about trans characters, atleast use proper pronouns.

uhhh he/she could have wanted an op to have girl parts but still wanted to identify as a dude?
jeez guys! use proper pronouns that there's no clear answer for!

you have never had and will never have credibility in these arguments.

The thing about the dictionary is that if a grammatical or definitive mistake ends up as being commonly used, it goes in there because dictionaries define their words by how other people use them, not by an austere set of rules. And that's just the nature of language, I suppose. What really frustrates me, however, is that because of this, words like "peruse" now mean to "glance at something casually and carelessly," but it also means to "look over something with careful and thorough detail."
If you wanted to actually peruse the topic of "they" as a singular pronoun instead of simply perusing Google's definitions, you'll find that this is an issue that is often brought up and discussed. Even people who devote their lives to the language and its rules have no clear answer as to how this problem ought to be tackled. The writer of that article acknowledges that the singular "they" is commonly used, but she also acknowledges that people are pulling hairs because they can't find an acceptable solution. In the end, various writing style handbooks just tell you to try to avoid the issue, which demonstrates how crazy this problem really is. Maybe if everyone could just agree on how to say something, it wouldn't be a problem anymore. But that isn't going to happen anytime in this eternity, now is it?
You know what? I take it back. I'll accept "they" being used as a singular pronoun. That in and of itself is not grammatically incorrect. What I find to be incorrect is how people handle the verbs attached to singular "they's." For example: "Alex (gender-neutral) is going to the store. They are going to buy bread and milk." Why isn't it instead: "Alex is going to the store. They is going to buy break and milk." After all, if it is indeed being used as a singular pronoun, shouldn't the singular form of the verb be used instead of the plural form?
It's almost as if people can't make up their minds about whether or not the word "they" can be singular. Imagine that.
Anyone want to talk about Final Fight/Street Fighter?
Bye thread
God dammit you guys its just a video about a game. :suicide:

Sorry, I wasn't helping with the derail. I just wanted to resolve it and get back on topic instead of continuing with this semantic crap. To think all this controversy started because Poison was deemed a transsexual because it was convenient for the devs to say so. :v: That was interesting to hear.
uhhh he/she could have wanted an op to have girl parts but still wanted to identify as a dude?

This isn't even an argument, but you still decide to take some dumbass shot at my post when you don't even understand how these things work. Literally the definition of a post op transsexual means having completed surgery to transition to the other sex. In poisons case it means male to female. There's literally no reason to say he or she in either country.
Like come on, I'm not even trying to start shit about this but did you even think before you posted?
I don't get it .
You want to be identified as female yet you don't want to be called a she???
Words are tricky things. This is why I hope we develop psychic powers in order to communicate facts, ideas, and concepts telepathically on a level that transends language.
stop
I don't get it .

Erm... No? Poison would be a she In either country with either explanation is my point. "HE or she" is just pointless and wrong.
Are we STILL going on about this!?
Matt said he or she instead of assuming one gender, if anything I'd say that was a lot more kind of matt instead of just assuming ones gender.
Seriously everyone shut up about it my god. Who cares it's a video about video games, not that video of the transgirl getting her head stomped.
