• Multiple PSUs running a single machine?

A strange thing has happened. My PSU (480W) is powering my 4850 machine. I would've expected the PSU to cut out completely when the video card tries to pull too much power, but instead it simply puts a cieling on the max performance of the system. So my question is this; is it possible to have my 4850 running off of a seperate PSU? We can wire it so that the power switch triggers both at once quite simply, so I don't see any problems with the oscillations being out of phase.
Shouldn't 480W be sufficient for a 4850? Assuming all other hardware is not in excess? (300000 HDDs for example) And also assuming the Amperage is good.
Just get a better PSU, far more efficient than having 2. Besides where would you put the 2nd one? That PSU should be able to power it, if not, go for a 500W or 600W PSU from a good brand.
It is very possible, although very inefficient and potentially hazardous. here is a guide though http://www.overclock.net/faqs/15751-info-can-i-use-two-power.html
what brand is the PSU
