I totally agree, what they said just sounds so disingenuous...:

Knowing when the light is gonna change wont make a noticeable dent in traffic collisions. If anything it might slightly raise it by encouraging stupid people to race a light they might not have raced without.
If this is a safety feature so is air conditioning.

Exactly, driving in a [I]hot-as-balls[/I] car can be stressful, but fiddling with A/C setting while driving can also be distracting and causing collisions.
It's one of those things that if used correctly [I]CAN [/I]reduce collisions (or the severity of them).
With that said, the tech shown in OP should definitely be a open standard with no stupid strings attached.
