Two years for human trafficking? Isn't human trafficking kind of... Bad?

i can't believe it
That explains the English translation of the lyrics of Tunak Tunak Tun:
I never thought I would be reduced to this
Human trafficking - how could I let it go so far?
Such callous disregard for my fellow human
I have disfigured my very soul
Please end my suffering
Please end my suffering
Please end my suffering
Please end my suffering
I can't believe we didn't see it sooner, honestly.
That's one way of branching out into other industries I suppose. Surprised he only got two years.
Is human trafficking not that severe of an offense over in India?
India is notoriously weird about their legal system.
Half their laws are selectively applied, and villages in the lands interior are pretty much still run by what is damn near tribalism.
And if the people he were trafficking were of the lowest caste, it'd be damn near impossible for those people to find help. And i'd imagine conservative elements in the courts and government could even undermine the prosecution on that basis. Its all quite a shitshow.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was more that they couldn't afford to keep him in prison, either that or prison sucks so badly over there that you don't want to go back.
That title's a bit sensationalist, he smuggled some migrants to the US and scammed others out of a lot of money on the promise that he'd smuggle them over too (unless I'm reading it wrong?)

That sucks, he always sounded like a cool guy whenever I read up about him.
He was a smuggler, that's still confusingly infuriating but far less so.
Wow, right after I downloaded his song on the steam workshop to replace the "counter attack" theme on Insurgency
Of course he was, when you pay close attention to the documentary Tunak Tunak Tun you can see Daler Mehndi is an aggregate of similar looking people with differently coloured clothing, he didn't declare he was an amalgamate of multiple bearded folk on customs and now he's facing the consequences
I can't believe it. He was a childhood hero for me. Used to listen to his stuff all the time too back when we were still on cassette tapes.
