I bet investors are pissed lol. But in reality, the game was so heavily tarnished they weren't going to get the promised dosh anyway, even if EA had doubled down and proceeded with them.
The real question is will this increase the player count?
It feels good to know that all the backlash made a difference. It was scummy that they went ahead with the obvious pay-to-win crap to begin with, but it's EA, they do that sort of thing.
I wonder if this will fix the Unlockable Character grind that requires you to spend days on end playing the game just to unlock the cheapest character.
not bad, but no one gives a shit about the game now, plus already tarnished reputation, so i'm afraid those changes will be futile to make EAfront 2 attractive to new players
i'd rather make EAfront 3 without all the bs at the beginning and forget the second game ever existed
There are still enough people playing on PC to get full servers.
i'm afraid it won't last and become abandoned like the first game

Based on the article, it seems like EA actually listened? Where's the catch?
Or is the catch just that they've made their profit from lootbox whales already?
Was worried the backlash over lootboxes would ultimately amount to nothing, but this sounds more positive.
Most people who got turned off initially won't change their minds, but this might earn them back some goodwill. Either way, can only hope EA ends up learning from this, as optimistic as that sounds.
They turned off Microtransactions the day of release, so no. They didn't make very much money from crates.
Honestly, i think the whole franchise's reputation is gone, even if they'll make a sequel people will start saying "Oh it's the sequel to that lootbox infested game", unless they pump it to eleven both game and marketing wise.
I thought it took people days to unlock characters, maybe back at launch....
Every character yeah but they reduced the prices of them since launch and increased some of the credit drops.
Ah okay, that's good to hear.
Thanks for letting me know.
With this update they'll be removing that completely, so you don't have to buy heroes anymore.
The catch is that pappa didney was not pleased with the backlash and caused them to 180 all their decisions even though they agreed to them in the first place.
Now they're doing something in the middleground to try and renewal their brand, while at the same time showing disney that they can actually fix a colossal fuckup, which in result means they keep their exclusive contract to make SW games.
I'll warily accept this... Though I still want nothing to do with EA.
Wow, color me surprised. I hope this is an actual lasting impact on the industry and not a one-time way to quell backlash. Though I suspect it won't last.
Is it worth buying now, btw? From what I read it was a good game bar lootboxes.
the base gameplay is decent.
Starfighter combat is great.
So much for "preserving" the Star Wars canon by not including cosmetics.
based on a dev comment the first few cosmetics will be from Battlefront 1, but he says that will run out fast.
It's good to see that the backlashed worked
They can keep their game though.
Took 'em long enough. I may actually give this a glance over at some point, now. I was always interested in the game but the amount of lootbox shenans made me extremely hesitant.
I was promised a pink Darth Vader.
Where's my pink Darth Vader.
I might actually get the game now, I'm pretty damn surprised they actually went through with changes.
I think it is a combo of the backlash and maybe their sales were not good. Maybe this is a last effort to get an increase in sales.
Damn, about time.
They should have just abandoned the game, its too late to fix it up after all the shitfest that happened
