We shouldn't arm teachers because most are women - Alabama lawmaker

Alabama lawmakers need to protect "our ladies" and to do that, they should not arm teachers because most are women, argued State Rep. Harry Shiver, R-Stockton, this morning.
Most women, and women teachers in particular, "are scared of guns," and should not be expected to carry them in classrooms, he said.
Shiver, in comments to AL.com, echoed the statements he made during this morning's Public Safety Committee hearing in which he said he wanted to protect women teachers.
"I'm not saying all (women), but in most schools, women are (the majority) of the teachers," Shiver told AL.com. "Some of them just don't want to (be trained to possess firearms). If they want to, then that's good. But most of them don't want to learn how to shoot like that and carry a gun."

it's like such a bad opinion it wraps back around to a sensible outcome of not arming teachers
broken clock is right twice a day or something
Women are the fastest growing demographic of new firearm owners and CCW license holders.
It's like they're trying to lose as much of their voter base as possible
Welp...this pretty much describes the insanity of American politics atm.
Well I mean there are good reasons for a teacher not wanting to own guns like..
The new found consequences should the teacher fail to protect the students.
The idea that their job is to teach children not to second as a security guard.
The fear of their students getting a hold of their guns to do who knows what.
This "reason" is ridiculous, and a very thinly veiled retort. Just because they're women doesn't mean that can't have guns. ( even though I find the idea of armed teachers to be a very bad idea )
I mean, the end opinion is right imo, teachers probably shouldn't be forced to carry guns, that's what trained professionals are for, like idk, police and armed security officers, but the means of achieving the opinion here are so wrong that it hurts to have him in agreement with my position.
Yeah... Doesn't really surprise me. Republicans here are absolutely fucking bananas.

I am fairly certain that it is physiologically impossible to have a perspective that is more backwards without your skull spontaneously combusting from it.
Stone-age people thinking stone-age thoughts, saying stone-age things...
Legit thought this would be a onion article.
I saw this in one of those "expanding brain" memes and I genuinely thought it was just a shitpost. Oh boy.
Can I please get off this timeline? There has a to be a branch where I can just get off of this please.
Like how do you wrap this around? On what vein of any nonsensical reason can you wrap this around?
Is this some kind of reverse psychology thing?
I really didn't think this stupid debate about arming teachers could devolve any further into stupidity, but I guess I just forgot that Alabama exists...
Really crossing my fingers that some brain trust is gonna swooce in here and try to tell us that this is a reasonable stance.
I don't get how anyone can say "Women can't do _____" when all through out history Women have been Queens, warriors, and lots of other things. Women aren't fragile, if anything they are alot tougher than us in alot of ways.
Gun loving racists and sexists?
I just finished reading a book that took place in Nevada, 1870 and seeing this said150 years later is blowing my mind right now.
One step forward.. Two steps back..
They're in Alabama. I suppose there's a reason it's stereotyped to hell and back.
I feel like in the last few days, a whole lot of stupid has suddenly crawled out of the woodwork over this issue.
Did something happen that I was unaware of? This is really bizarre.
