I don't understand the point of that at all. The NRA has sooo much money and was going to give a ton of it to Trump no matter what because they would never support Clinton.
It seems kind of sloppy for the Russians to try this. But then again, if Trump and Russia weren't sloppy, we wouldn't know about any of these investigations.

Dont put the cart before the horse. This is just a preliminary to an actual investigation and the FEC hasnt confirmed anything so far. Theres not even any evidence, the senate Finance Commitee just wants to know where the money came from they gave to Trump.
The NRA is a pretty shitty lobbying group, but it would be foolish on their part to risk everything to funnel Trump 30 mil he could easily get through other means.
The NRA is primarily funded by member donations, and anyone can become a member by donating. All it would take to have 'Russia secretly funding the NRA' would be for them to submit donations under alias or through sympathetic individuals. I'd be shocked if Russia wasn't funding the NRA, but I'd be more shocked if it actually translated into any measurable influence over the lobby's activities.
