A new ratings order - General

Hi There's been lots of discussion on what ratings should stay/go, but for me I think the ratings are seemingly random in their order beneath the post. I don't mind the new order, but most should simply be removed. as per the other thread about ratings

Re-add the old ratings, I miss my rainbows

Reordering them won't make it less cluttered. On top of that, most people think a number of the ratings are too vague or too specific for use. I have seen 4 times already users whose first language is not English not understanding what "Big Whoop" is, while other ratings like Cute/Sympathy/Love overlap so much that there isn't a point in having all three.

Yeah I agree, some ratings are redundant, as said in the other threads However, even if they take away ratings or add some back, thought should be given as to where the ratings are, relative to each other

Remove every one except Child Molester.

just like how you could only rate star in oldpunch polidicks, make it so you can only rate child molester in newpunch polidicks

I think informative is the only new one. Child molester has been replaced with dumb and cookie has been replaced with winner.

At first I wasn't on board with this but it does add some weight If I rate your post dumb and I had to pay a coin for it, you know your post is fuckin dumb

Dumb rating was ruining the previous forum because it was used as a mass harassment tool and made people discouraged to post anything that wasn't meticulously thought out for three hours. It should either cost a coin to rate someone dumb or there needs to be a system that prevents it from being bandwagoned. The rating allows 50 people to effortlessly call someone an idiot, which is not good. fucking Child Molester was better, and that rating was kind of fucked up, it was a huge mistake to bring dumb and winner back.

dumb being the only real negative rating outside of disagree made it a catch-all, there's plenty more contextual ratings now to cover the gap that the aggressive, whiny, pointless, badly written or wholly misinformed posts should know what they're fucking up about having negative ratings DOES act as a pre-emptive bad post deterrent though, it's a small effect but carries a bit of the smartness system's spirit on

As far as I am concerned the only thing any of them do is make the forum an overly judgmental shithole that make it impossible to post anything that is not a professional dissertation. Forum users should not have tools to effortlessly insult other users this easily, if someone truly wants to insult someone they should either pay some kind of a price for it or type it to their face.

Really now? You only have to look around for a minute to see that people are posting plenty of low effort content around here, and most of them don't get immediately showered in negative ratings, unless they really deserve it. You're putting way too much weight on something that isn't even a big deal. Ratings are meant to be a quick way to give feedback so that not everyone needs to post a short reply saying basically the same thing. The negative ratings are a useful tool, and I'm glad that we have more of them now so that you can be more nuanced rather than just having a choice between disagree and dumb.

You do realise ratings are just an expression of peoples opinion? By taking them away you change nothing except make it harder for people to express their opinion. If a post is stupid enough that people feel the need to massively rate it dumb, then maybe it has nothing to do with the forum being a shithole, but with the post simply being bad.

Honestly i'm just glad BOK and Winner is back. i mean child molester had it's purpose but i really do feel like Dumb is generally more "Facepunch" than anything. Removing it yanked some of the personality the site had honestly. It was a good move to bring it back.

I am reasonably certain that I was bandwagoned with ratings plenty of times for literally no good reason whatsoever, as well as plenty of other users going through the same thing. I saw posts dumbed to shit that were not all that dumb at all. And no it's not just little pictures, it's still ultimately 50 people calling you a retard, which is not exactly desirable. And to my knowledge low effort content is usually classified as a shitpost anyway?

I still don't get what the point of "Lucky" is. If it's meant to say "wow you're lucky" that's basically the same thing as "Winner", if it's meant to say "optimistic", well, why not bring back that rating instead?

Because optimistic was usually used to call people gay and very rarely to call them actually optimistic because it was a rainbow.
