Russia investigation may turn to Ivanka Trump as Mueller examine..
The longer this dregs on, the more paranoid I am about Trump pulling some stunt to nix the whole thing. Honestly surprised he hasn't just fired Mueller at this rate.
I think he already tried once.
It's only gonna get worse from here, unless Mueller immediately starts issuing warrants and getting things moving, and I mean within the next half week or so. Trump and his family are being pushed to their limit, they know things are beginning to collapse around them, and if they wait even longer to take action, it'll just look even more incriminating towards them once more info from Mueller's case comes forward. So either they'll try to fire Sessions/get Mueller fired in the next few days (Which is what it seems like they're doing), or wait longer and risk their public image being dragged down more and more until there's nothing left.
He did try, congress wouldn't have it.
Do we even have any recourse if he pulls that? I mean, will the protest even work? I hate to be cynical (and pull out the "current year" argument), but it's 2018, and everything I've seen the past few years has indicated that protests, petitions, boycotts... none of that stuff works anymore, whether it be on companies or politicians. It feels like laypeople are more powerless than ever, even when in large numbers.
The ideology of solution is out there, democratic socialism. We need to unify behind it and not be disheartened by their usage of resources to write society's cultural norms against us.
I'm worried Trump will be killed off and made a martyr against the FBI / a "deep state" or whatever before the american people can be exposed to the truth.
Never will work. America's culture and history is anti-socialism on the most fundamental level of the country. You could almost say it's "in the country's DNA" so to speak. Maybe some aspects could get snuck in, but the US will never have that type of system similar to the Nordic countries.
Don't be disheartened by their usage of resources to write society's cultural norms against us.
Slavery used to very embedded in american culture but they seems to have moved past it.
I just don't really understand. You think people are really against socialism for a serious ideological reason? No way, they've just been made to be afraid of it. Slowly, over time, decades even, we can change society.
Slavery wasn't in our entire country. Hence why we had a war between the states. And there was an abolition movement even before the country's independence. Slavery was a serious debate issue during the writing of the Constitution and afterward up until the 1860s. On the flip side, no where in the United States is there already a culture for democratic socialism.
What does Democratic Socialism represent? Empathy, fairness, equality of opportunity? How is that against our culture? Maybe your culture, maybe your state, but not mine.
I do not trust American politicians to implement socialism correctly in the US. It'll only lead to excessive taxation, poor usage of said tax money, and nothing getting further done. When half the country votes for the GOP, even if the Democrats went full hard-on for socialism, they would still need to compromise parts of it with the Republicans, which will lead to a dozen half measures that won't be effective and just leave people with higher taxes going to useless projects that don't actually benefit majority of people. And let's not forget we spent 80+ years "fighting the reds". Those memories are still in the US, even if there are those that hadn't actually fought in Korea or Vietnam. -- Civil wars don't happen because people want democratic socialism; that's just plain stupid to assume.
That's the point of the word "democratic" in the ideology. A couple people don't get to decide what happens. You can say you don't trust it to work, but that's not an argument for not doing it. That's an argument for being careful. Compromise with the republicans? Some of their ideas of "compromise " with socialism completely defeat the purpose of it. Sure, we can have some ideas that work with the system we currently have, but we shouldn't be changing our ideology in any meaningful way to "compromise". We run our platforms, and we try to win. Civil wars definitely do happen because of things like that, actually.
historically america has been totally fine with socialism unless it benefits black people. wonder why that is
Two years ago, Fox News propaganda and /pol/ memes got a morally reprehensible cartoon villain into the most powerful position in the western world and filled Congress with big-business cronies of his who will most likely refuse to impeach said tyrant (who, mind you, is now on the record as considering abolishing term limits and installing himself for life) even once the investigation finishes up and presents overwhelming evidence of his treasonous dealings with a hostile superpower, and as a last resort against said Congress's complicity we are now discussing a country-wide protest that will also likely amount to nothing. Let me put that another way: Yes.
To keep the lower classes divided against each other?
Doesn't mean you give up. It is people giving up because of the stark reality that causes us to live in this state. We need to be strong, and unify. You're absolutely right that there are a lot of stupid fucks that do make up a great amount of America, but I know we can beat them. We can get the independents, the dems, and some light-righters, we can easily win if we have a party for the people under Democratic Socialism.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting giving up and I know Trump is going down whether that by judicial means, a protest, or a bloody civil war, but don't discount that reality either. Fact is, the deck is not stacked in our favor when it comes to achieving his downfall via either of the first two methods. I'd like to think that Mueller's conclusion will end up with the bastard getting booted out of the White House so hard that the boot remains lodged up his ass even as he careens into the neighboring states' airspace, but I also liked to think that Bernie was on track for victory two years ago and that even if he failed, Hillary would have it in the bag against Trump.
Best way to keep the voters supporting your bullshit rhetoric is to scare them with poor brown people.
I love watching people accidentally stumble into parrotting Marx. "It is like the rich dictate our culture!" "The wealthy keep the lower classes divided." This is what developing class consciousness looks like.
That doesn't make people wrong, though. The division of wealth has never been greater. The middle class has all but disappeared, and grows smaller by the day as more and more wealth is concentrated at the top.
I don't think he meant it made people wrong
Oh I wasn't suggesting they were wrong by any means, quite the opposite. I like seeing it happen Marx is my favorite of the sociological theorists.
When some of you say “democratic socialism” do you mean Bernie Sanders “it’s actually social democracy but I call it democratic socialism” or “you can vote and all but your private assets no longer belongs to you legally.” if its the latter then good luck with that, if the former then blame Bernie Sanders for causing a misunderstanding with the masses.
I personally voted for Sanders in the primaries, so I'm very much so a believer in some of the things he championed. I didn't see eye-to-eye with him on all his policies he proposed during his campaign, but between those I did like, his feeling of being just plain genuine in nearly every time I saw him speak (including a rally I attended in my hometown where he gave a speech), and his emphasis on being a statesman, I honestly wish he'd won, or at the least moved Clinton to remodel her platform in a more progressive fashion pre-General election. But oh well. That was the past, now we can only look forward to applying lessons learned to the future.
