[Torture allegations dog Gina Haspel as she is poised to be first..]
Not at all surprised that a CIA officer ran a black site and by all accounts loved to torture people. I really do think that we could just get rid of the CIA and send everyone who works for it to some tropical island and the world would function 200% better.
Who is even surprised anymore? Just waiting for us to drop to 60th on the HDI.

How do I embed news articles like everyone else? I keep reading that you just put the page URL into the post and it'll do it automatically, but it's not working.
I swear you live in some bizarre Hollywood Reality where you think shit works based on stereotypes.
I mean, it is a CIA nominee who loves torture and ran a black site soooo
Sorry, you're right. How else are we supposed to start another crack epidemic, fund fascist paramilitary death squads in Central America, and torture brown people in secret prisons in Eastern Europe?
I meant with the part of you saying "Not surprising that a CIA officer likes torturing people"... Yeah i know the CIA did stupid shit. But i imagine they aren't all sociopathic torturers
Some good news is that Rand Paul will oppose both Haspel's and Pompeo's nominations from this thread, and McCain isn't in DC now according to this article, and he might oppose Haspel at least from his tweet about her history with torture. Also, Haspel, whom under Pompeo became the agency’s deputy director, briefly ran the off-the-books prison in Thailand used as a torture laboratory for the earliest detained terrorism suspects. There, in 2002—including while Haspel ran the so-called black site—the man known as Abu Zubaydah was waterboarded 83 times; stuffed into a wooden box barely bigger than a coffin; had his body shackled in painful contorted positions; and had his head slammed into walls. You don't get to the point of having a global network of secret torture prisons without having a pretty decent contingency of people who love to torture. Sure, not all of them have tortured people, but they obviously have no problem with it if they're willing to work in an organisation known for doing massive amounts of torture.

Let them start their own sovereign nation of "Paranoiastan".
one of the reports of torture were retracted but she was still responsible for destruction of evidence to hide the torture
Major retraction: ProPublica's Gina Haspel Correction CIA Director nominee Gina Haspel did not mock tortured detainee
Thank god for that. I was seriously concerned when I learned that she might have made people feel bad during their torture.
I edited my post, but it was more than just that if you read the articles.
I was just hoping that the island would collapse under their weight and sink into the bottom of the ocean.
Had the pleasure of overhearing Fox News defend this, saying stuff like "Waterboarding isn't torture, that's just an opinion" and "You'd do it too if it would save your family". It boggles my mind that there are still people defending the use of torture, despite being both immoral and ineffective.
Hardly major. She didn't mock the detainee, and she wasn't the chief of the blacksite, but she still worked there, and still tried to cover up torture.
The real horrible shit with the CIA is that the ones that aren't comic book style villains are just clerks and box-ticking paperwork handlers who are completely blasé toward the kind of horror they're facilitating through their scribe work. All those toe tags gotta be written by somebody.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/13/us/politics/gina-haspel-cia-director-nominee-trump-torture-waterboarding.html NYT article citing officials who say that she arrived to run the prison in October 2002, where waterboarding was practiced until it shut down in December 2002.
