Besides, Yakuza 1, 2, 3 and 4 are nearly completely funded by Sony Interactive which i'd think make it even harder to port over. The success of Yakuza 0 hopefully makes room for talks about porting the game but perhaps this is a bigger indication for Sony to keep it on their console.
I wouldn't recommend this remake over the original. It changes the music in several scenes and add dumb sound effects ruining the sombre, neo-noir tone of the original, plus they cut out an area completely and removed a bunch of detail from the game. This video does a decent job explaining the problem.

It's still a worthwhile game on its own for the price of 30 dollars though.
I'm new to the series so could people explain what the Kiwami titles are, i just completed zero and bought Kiwami because i thought it was the fourth one in the series.
For a minute i thought i could actually get a coherent grasp on the story, but are these actually spin-off stories?
They're remakes of Yakuza 1 & 2, respectively. It has its upsides in terms of graphics, but as was mentioned it cuts down a lot on the charm of the Yakuza series as a whole.
they're remakes of the original games, Kiwami being Yakuza 1 and Kiwami 2 being Yakuza 2
they're very low budget projects that basically use the engine from the latest entry and new graphics, though the cutscenes still have the exact same animations
not the optimal way to play the original games but the gameplay in the first 2 has aged poorly so Kiwamis have their advantages
Wow really, i mean it sucks they don't hold up as well. But this means i can actually start out from the beginning since i only own a PS4. Wow, that's pretty cool. I don't know why but i somehow came to the conclusion i would be jumping into the story halfway through.
the first Kiwami adds a bunch of cutscenes that help flesh out the antagonist which helps the story a lot but for Yakuza 2 i'd recommend trying to emulate it first since the tone and atmosphere is key to why that game's story is the best in the series
From the PS4 you can basically play Yakuza 0, 1 and 2 but the remakes offer both added and removed content with a more content removed (in the first game even a entire area) then added. For example they jumped on the Gojima popularity by added the Gojima Everywhere system.
If you are new to the series you should start with Yakuza 0/Zero which lucky for you is also currently one and if not, the best Yakuza game at the moment.
What was the area removed? My entry point is Yakuza 0 that I've been playing off and on, then I plan on jumping into Kiwami next and then buying Kiwami 2 after I finish that. I hope the stuff removed isn't too egregious.
So did you not research your purchase at all? A quick look at Wikipedia would answer your question
You seem like a real friendly fellow.

The developers of Yakuza are also making a Fist of the North Star game which should at some point also come to the west.
My point was you bought something without even knowing what it was other then it had Yakuza in the title and then saying you're trying to grasp the narrative without putting effort in. You could have easily went and Google the Yakuza franchise to see that Kiwami was a remake of 1 and not a remaster of 4. You could also see what was a spin-off and what wasn't.
Buying something just because of the name with no knowledge of what it entails is not a good idea. What if you had bought Yakuza Ishin and suddenly wondered why everyone was a samurai?
My point is you're writing this to feel superior to somebody else. I understand your intention, but you know i didn't check it. So why bring it up other than to boost your own ego.
The problem is I'd really rather not emulate or dig out my PS2, along with paying more for the older game. I haven't watched the whole video, but a lot of it seems like shit I wouldn't mind, and probably wouldn't notice if there wasn't a giant white "LOL" and arrow pointing at it.
Problem is that Kiwami 2 completely changes the tone and style of the second game. They changed the writer from Yakuza 3 onward and it shows, 1&2 has a more subduded and gritty tone while still being slightly goofy and over the top while 3 onward goes full anime. This video on twitter and the video bellow it is a good example of the tone change but with slight spoilers.

I don't see how saying that you should research what you buy and use common sense is me trying to boost my ego and be can spirited.
Thank you this is exactly what I meant.
I do hope with the sales of the remakes of 1&2 we get a localization of Inshin
unlikely
unless the devs make PS4 remasters of kenzan and isshin or something, i can't see Sega releasing spin-off PS3 games of a fairly niche series
Ishin was on PS4 too, was a Japanese launch title.
