Amazing video. I can't believe that they've consistently made such good content without skipping a beat.
The message is good if you don't wanna read adam smith but the representation of history in this video irked me somewhat since life never really was a zero-sum game. Innovation and growth (sometimes massively, e.g. silk road) were pretty much always happening. Limited communication ofc stunted it, but it was there.
I think that was one of their better videos. Though I may be biased because it aligns with my personal beliefs.
The video didnt go into this concept, but there would be a tipping point where a purely selfish motive swtiches from acting as if the world is zero sum to not. Before long range communication and civilization the chance of some guy on the other side of the world being better off somehow contributing to your life were near zero and so you could treat it as such, but now you can talk to anyone, anywhere immeditely. Anyone can innovate and put that into the global sphere of knowledge with little to no time lag to ensure the selfish actor would be able to take advantage of those innovations within his own life time, which is part of the point.
The main issue is for this to work people have to got to look further down the road and not just at the quarter mile. Most don't give a shit about helping humanity and would rather make a quick and easy profit. Regardless of who it fucks over in the process.
i was thinking the same thing. theres a very small amount of people who hold the majority of the wealth and most of them are only interested in maintaining and increasing their wealth.
