So I migrate over and it doesn't use my old name? What the hell? I want it changed post-haste. What is with this new account BS anyway? This change is insanely stupid and the people who thought it through should've used more than a proton of brainpower before pushing it out.
You were supposed to use whichever name you wanted here on the new forum. I can see why the migration was confusing, but having a shitfit about it is probably not the appropriate way to go about getting help. Everyone else who has needed help has been smart enough to ask politely.
You can waste one of my coins instead.
I would have asked politely if my blind frustration with this layout wasn't present.
If you were supposed to enter whatever name you desired (in terms of migration) it should have stated that if you migrate your account you will be stuck with the new name BEFORE you create the account.
It is common knowledge that if you enter the name of an existing account you won't be able to continue with the account creation.
Buddy this isn't some helpline you can call up and abuse, you can complain all you want but thankfully we don't have a complaints department.
Also in the future read the migration thread and also pay more attention.
I appreciate it, but I'm assuming with this site you'll need every coin you can get. So here it is back. Ty though <3
I finally had the 69 removed from my name and then I lost the google auth (custom domain, had to recreate it on google apps and the creds were gone) and thus lost access to the account so I can understand where you're coming from.
@Pascall has a point though you should reach out for help on discord.
Help
How do I bring my old account over?
Create a new account on this site.
When logged into your new account, visit this page.
What will then happen is that we'll give you gold if you had it,
adjust your join date and convert any posts that have migrated into your
current account's name. When we finish migrating the forums, all posts
will be in your name.
You'll also recieve a level/coin boost based on your previous
account. This isn't a massive amount of anything on purpose, and will at
most equate to about 6 months on this forum.
Honestly, at this point you should just live with your mistake and browse for 50-ish days for 50 coins to change your name. If you're active, you can get a couple coins per day.
see this is a perfect example of the new baby rating being used properly, consider it a case study for its coexistence with the return of the dumb icon
Accidentally clicked the red face Was trying to see who gave that to you because that seems kinda mean, but I guess you can;t see the names of the people who rate you anymore, either...
Rate me diamond and I'll help.*
*By laughing all the way to the bank because you're acting like a big baby over something as trivial as a name on a forum, like just log into a different email and use that name. It's not that deep.
I think dumb would suit this situation fine. If anything it's a good case for Bad Reading.
Sorry for being such a "baby". Didn't know having genuine grievances made someone such.
Blah.
It's not a genuine grievance if your own stupidity and inability to read put you in this position. You are mad at everyone else because you made a mistake.
Being a member of this forum is a privilege, not a right. While I'm generally happy to help people with things as best as I can, it definitely doesn't make me any more inclined to if they act as though they're entitled to anything here which is apparent by the OP.
Admins have access to the panels to assist with name changes on the rare chance that a mistake was made and have done so in the past, but you'll be hard pressed to convince Hezzy or Postal to do so now.
Okay, you got me. Sorry.
It's okay, I forgive you.
Do admins have ability to change the email someone uses to auth an account?
It's more complicated then just changing the email address.
That, I'm not sure about. Probably but you'd have to ask one. In the meantime though, you can add other auth methods and remove the e-mail when Garry introduces the ability to do so.
so this is why the baby rating was added...
unless garry's done something absolutely fucky with oauth, probably not
it's a call response type system, there'd be no way for an admin to generate an oauth request without having access to your account
my suggestion would be to add another login method, wait until deleting your own login methods is available, and resolve it yourself
Eh, I figure it's probably gone anyway because I doubt the accounts are "stacked" onto my email rather than just being overridden. I guess if garry is just searching for the most recent account associated with this email, then I could remove my email from this one and log into the previous one, but if he's just associating the "current" account with an email its borked. I'll have a background in like a week or something anyway so fuck it. It would have been fun to do giveaways and stuff though
Just post a bunch then change it lmao
I feel like if you made this thread with a different tone you would have had a lot more coin ratings.
I typed mine in all caps and didn't realize I'd be stuck with it but I will learn to rock it
ActuEmails aren't tied to oauth, I authed with a fake facebook (banned account now), and switch the email from a temp one to my real one on the very next step.
BUT, all the emails for your authed accounts are stored on your profile (thanks kiwi).
The ESericves Services like twitter and steam, according to garry at least, don't allow you to fetch the email for the account, which is why they only appeared after garry implemented email verification.
Being able to change the email on the account now is relatively simple.
Users can do it from here: Facepunch Auth
Fourm Forum admins can do it from the admin cp https://forum.facepunch.com/commits/2018/March/#4375acd247dbf962bcdf69bfe4dc4bd1804c077a
yeah you can, just click on the number and hope the animation doesn't crash your browser
right they can edit emails but they can't edit the actual authentication methods
