A 13-year-old girl in Mississippi has died after allegedly being shot by her nine-year-old brother over a video game, police say.
They said the boy grabbed a gun on Saturday afternoon after his sister would not give up the controller.
He allegedly shot her from behind, and the bullet entered her brain.
A local sheriff announced on Sunday that the teen had died of her injuries in a Memphis hospital. It was unclear how the boy obtained the gun.
It is also unclear what consequences the nine-year-old will face.
"He's just nine," Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell told the Clarion Ledger.
"I assume he's seen this on video games or TV. I don't know if he knew exactly what this would do. I can't answer that. I do know it's a tragedy."
This is why guns should be locked away from everyone more like.
Watch as they will go after videogames
Watch as they will not even bother asking "why was the 9yo capable of acquiring a lethal weapon in the first place"
Oof, if only the sister also had a gun.
Just imagine having to grow up with this on your conscience...
this is a terrible loss. worst part is i'm certain people are going to be using this to further the agenda of "video games are violent". we'll be hearing about this case more i bet.
That's one sensationalized as hell title.
As has been already stated I believe that this will be spun into an example as to why Video Games are a bad influence on children and that they need to be further scrutinized and regulated.
The ease of access to the weapon will be cast aside, the mental state of the child who thought shooting his sister was the right thing to do will not be investigated further because it is those damn Video Game's fault this happened.
Maybe I am being cynical, but I get the distinct feeling that tragedy that this family is going through is going to be used as a political football.
Pretty sure they are gonna salute the USA for being that easy for a 9 yo to get a gun.
But seriously now, what a stupid death.
Good parenting, nice job at hiding the gun. Whatever let's ban all video games.
What a convenient time for this to happen too, where video games are the go-to deflection for gun issues as opposed to mental health.
Bad parenting on multiple fronts, not keeping the firearm locked away from kids, and not instilling in him that its not ok to act like that. What a tragedy all around.
I've seen kids smash other kid's heads in with metal toys (a toy train, actually) because the other kid wouldn't let him have his toy dump truck. Don't blame video games - blame the way these children are brought up, what their parents have taught them, or even just the plain old lack of supervision. Having a gun in the house is bad enough, having it so easily accessible for a 9 year old is worse. Allowing your child to grow up being capable of such rage and not doing anything about it is just the icing on that messed up cake. It's not hard to tell when your kid has anger issues - just watch them play those video games or watch how they act around kids or people they don't like.
This shit isn't rocket science.
are you saying this is a conspiracy...?
No ofc not it's just shitty timing for something like this to happen, but very good timing for Trump and colleagues
This is purely because of shitty parenting from their parents. If anybody should be punished, it should be them.
think about it: everytime something happens in politics, the news just fill up with things related to said thing
it's almost like the media profits off of people's indignation and fears!
no, it isn't purely about shitty parenting. it's partly a mistake on the parents but everyone here is once again missing the common denominator: he had easy access to a gun. little kids are assholes, especially to their siblings. i'm sure he had no idea his actions would result in his sisters death.
to be fair this would probably make news anyway. it's a pretty fucked up thing to happen
I wonder if Microsoft even knew how far reaching their impact would be with this ultra violent video game console
That's what I mean.
Being a decent parent, you would know where to hide the gun atleast, so your kids won't be able to reach or find it. If he had such easy access to it, then it is bad parenting.
oh ok you just said "convenient" in that way insane weirdos do lol

Look, there is no evidence that the video game where you play as a nine year old who executes his 13 year old sister because she won't let you play video games had any influence on this kid. Video games don't make people violent and you'll take my copy of Sister Murder Simulator when you pry it out of my cold, dead hands.
But seriously, he's seen this in a video game? What a copout for "I have no answer to why this happened."
yeah, I was just saying that a lot of the time some major decisions happen, more news supporting those decisions come up
money talks I guess
You don't "hide" it, you secure it so they can't get it even if they know where it is, but yeah.
.25 caliber. That tells me that the gun owner really wasn't that serious about guns, and just got a super cheap throwaway gun to just throw in her purse for the feeling of protection. Plus, guns that small tend to lack safety features. Guns are a serious thing. If you don't want to take them seriously, train your kids on what to do and the serious consequences of doing the wrong thing with guns and what they are capable of, and don't secure them properly, you should not own a gun. It hurts me every time something like this happens, because it is absolutely preventable in so many ways, and just speaks to me that these people just didn't give a flying fuck about anything having to do with weapons safety around children.
I mean, you say that, but didn't you mimic shit you saw on TV, movies and games when you where a little kid? I know when I was 9 I was running around with a pringles can on my arm pretending I was Samus shooting at aliens or whatever.
I know I almost seriously hurt a friend of mine when I pushed them into some deep bay mud that almost actually swallowed them fuckin' whole just because I got heated at some joking insults he tossed at me.
I would not put it past a kid at all to see someone use a gun on TV to "solve a problem" and then them doing the same to solve their own.
And this is why people need to lock up their damn firearms.
and having a readily available murder tool in your house that is explicitly designed to kill things
Uneducated people more like.
This is why gun safes and fire arms safety courses should be mandatory, for anyone who seeks to own a firearm.
