Hope the shitbag behind this goes down so long that daylight seems alien afterward.
Disgusting. Hoping the person behind these attacks is found before they can hurt anyone else.
I've apparently hit my limit for WP articles so I can't read it, but wasn't this one in a white neighborhood with white victims?
Apparently So; This fourth explosion went off in the southwestern part of the city, far from the first three, and police said Monday that the two men injured are white. They were taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, officials said, and hospital officials said they were in good condition.
a better title would be "police considering racial motivation"
Looks like just some random nutter stirring the pot.
Looks like you're desperately hoping this isn't racially motivated because that goes against your worldview that minorities are totally fine in America and not being targeted at all, and you really don't want to deal with all that pesky cognitive dissonance.
I'd consider murder a bit more than "stirring the pot". And even if it's a "random nutter", whoever is making the bombs seems to have some level of sophistication. I wouldn't be so dismissive. The fact that this fourth bomb was apparently triggered by a tripwire is interesting since it is a departure from the others which seemed to target specific individuals. Makes me wonder if it is the same person, or if the person is changing it up to try to throw off the investigation. Or maybe it's multiple people working together. There isn't a lot of info to go on. Hopefully the police are able to piece together some leads.
on what planet is package bombs "stirring the pot"
The same could said for people who seek out desperately for confirmation that this was a racially motivated attack despite theory now seemingly contradicted. I think it is just much better to acknowledge that at this point we have no idea what the motivations are for such a person. It is terrible and condemn-able whatever motivation they have.
Certainly, but Joey is basically saying "this is definitely not racially motivated, no siree it's just one of 'em silly crackpots messin' around with some bombs haha!". Which is ridiculous.
Could also be an act by a "militia" domestic terrorist group. I think it's a bit far to assume it's either at this point, though both of our options here are much more likely than "random crackpot stirring shit".
Joey is a member of an armed "militia" group that plans violent attacks on domestic targets, including having detailed maps of which weak links in the power grid they could destroy to wipe out power to the state. They sound little better than armed extremists themselves. So, it doesn't seem especially surprising to me that he would view this so casually.
jesus fucking christ
Nah, militias wouldn't ever do anything bad like that, that's impossible.
Serial murderers adhere to patterns, and this killer seems to have been studying his intended victims beforehand. The pattern thus far established has primarily been one targeting minorities. Given that this was the first attack utilizing a tripwire instead of a package left on a doorstep, it's quite possible that it was intended for different victims, and the two who triggered this one were just in the wrong place and the wrong time. As of this time, the primary stated theory of the police still seems to be focusing on the possibility of hate crimes. As you say, no matter what the motivations behind this bomber are, it's fucking reprehensible. But all that's going on here is reporting the stated theory of the investigators. You're the one "desperately" seeking another narrative.
Was* I left said group in Arizona when I moved to NoDak. Almost all militia groups have similar plans from what I'm aware of.
Which probably explains why a huge share of militia groups are considered to be domestic terrorists by the FBI.

The bombs are over several different demographics/neighborhoods. Hence why I said "stirring the pot" because the only pattern I can realistically see without any evidence is that this bomber is just deliviring packages at random. If the bombers mission was to cause racial divide, the bomber got there way in these regards, but the bombing method doesn't seem to state that. Until further police reports come out, it's hard to make a true, "why" or "what" type deal.
The only "narrative" I hope for is that the person doing this is caught. I am just pointing out how nobody really has any idea what the motivation of this guy is. Regarding the mentioned theory; It was built on only one commonality and based on a the locations being predominantly hispanic or black. One of the previous victims were killed by carrying the package despite it being addressed to someone else already. So yes, you are quite right that these explosions might have fired off on the wrong people. Problem is that this tripwire was placed in a predominantly white neighborhood. And since it was a tripwire on a residential road, it isn't hard to assume this person is fine with most bystanders accidentally tripping it, but it doesn't fit the theory of this being a minority-focused perpetuator if it is the same person now. Even if the two men weren't the intended target, a racially-motivated perpetrator probably wouldn't choose a 78% white area to place a tripwire. So at the very least this theory needs to be reevaluated. It wasn't built on a strong foundation to begin with though. I would also like to ask you stop attributing extremist views to me so flippantly . If this person is caught on hate crime motivations, I will find that personally terrifying that an individual would carry out attacks under a terrible mindframe.
It's crazy to me how little coverage there is on this. These are basically terrorist attacks and today's news program spent half the time covering this as a story about Rihanna being mad at Snapchat.
Meh, I wouldn't call them terrorist attacks just yet. More like the work of a serial killer right now. And I think it's great they aren't covering it as much. When the media tries to over cover something, they start speculating, and it's never good when the media speculates nowadays.
How do you post the articles like that?
When you paste the article in the box, move your cursor into the article link and a box will pop up giving you the "embed" option.
I live in south Austin myself, only about 5 minutes from the fourth bomb. It is hard for me to believe this is the same perpetrator as the first three, if only because of the location. The areas the first three went off in are definitively hispanic and black communities, something very well known in Austin. Our "east side" is widely regarded as a poor area of town with higher crime rates, terrible squalor and homelessness, and really only where minorities live, or students but even this is usually just minority sudents who have less money and cannot afford downtown student living. As a result, even if the bomb that killed the elderly woman was an accidental, it was almost definitively targeting a black person. This bomb is in Westlake/Beecave/Rolling wood area, and where I live, it's mostly white older people and young families, some minorities, but mostly White and Asian. It's difficult to imagine someone targeting at random here expecting the same likelihood of harming a black person as if they did so in the east side. It's really almost impossible to do so, you never see black people in this area like you do white elderly people jogging and biking. This has to be a copycat or a revenge killing or perhaps there's no racial connection. This person could be some disgruntled cashier targeting rude customers, or something crazy, or even totally random, but if these are all the same person, I doubt it's racial. The first three might have been.
When do they call it Terrorism? People are paranoid about their mail now. I'd say that's Terrorism. Especially if it's motivated by race or whatever his deal might be.
Wow, so you're an ex latent terrorist instead of an active one, that's so much better. Even more so that you left due to distance and not literally any other factor.
We get a lot of racially motivated violence especially in east side or downtown; if only black people are targeted, most people won't get worked up. Here, at least, it'll only be considered terrorism if white people are targeted. Otherwise, it's business as usual for Texas lawmakers really.
Once you have a motive, you can determine if it's terrorism or not.
