That's a pretty cool thing to do after cancelling the game
it looks like shit
Oh man can't wait to see these all over the steam store.
Paragon's biggest issue was their lack of art direction. They have a character that is a popstar that runs side by side a big primitive looking ogre thing and next to that is a sci fi soldier. It made no sense, so in that regard, yes it looks shit. But on a technical level the assets are top tier and I'm glad they released them. Already took a closer look at two of the characters and the work really is exceptional.
Rest in fucking pieces paragon, you jumped on the trend way too late.
Wonder how many unique characters there are since I see a bunch of them use the same model.
Every time I try and do some neat stuff with UE4 I always run into the issue where I'm a single person with minimal modelling experience and I can't get my ideas implemented because the brush editor is so fucking terrible that I don't even want to throw down placeholder cubes to test stuff because it's such a convoluted process. Maybe $12 million in assets is exactly what I need to finally get shit started. UE4 is fantastic if you've got models and such to work with, kind of a massive pain in the ass if you don't.
Cue hundreds of asset flips on Steam with even more disparate quality differences between the random shit they cram in them.
Paragon was a pretty game imo, so it's cool that they're not just trashing everything. There's currently 20 heroes + their alternate skins, and they plan to release more later
On top of the refunds they allowed for every single Paragon purchase? I guess Fortnite is bringing in the biggest of bucks
I know it was released for good intentions but there's going to be alot more asset flips on Steam First it was the horrid spider head from Unity, now it's mish-mash of Paragon assets
If anything, this is just another way they're encouraging usage of UE4. They money was already spent so they might as well do something with the assets. Fortnite may making bank, but it is a temporary income stream. Their income as a company is dependent on people using UE4 so they do everything they can to get people to use it over Unity.
This is why I love developing on UE4
I was at target yesterday and they were still selling copies of this game for $60. you'd think epic would recall these since it would cost them less than refunding end users
Can't wait to see these in Hunt Down the Freeman 2.
This is a problem a lot of modern games have, even Overwatch does to an extent. Just smacking stuff together with no regard to artistic consistency.
I haven't heard of Paragon.
thats okay, I’ve seen $60 copies of battleborn at Walmart this week.
it had a lot of great things going for it at first, but the lead who's vision it was left over disagreements and they went in a really dumbed down direction. it was fun in early access but there was nothing that made it worth playing over dota or league in the end. a lot of people actually want to redo the game the way it was originally intended, so it'd be cool to see if this helps that take off. anyways, i can't wait to get a hold of these assets. we're looking to do a similar reskin system with material layers for a project im on.
Can't wait to see the fan remakes of the game. Still bummed one of my favorite multiplayer games died because "hnnnGNNG PUBG GOTTA DIE"
Overwatch by and large has great art consistency, what are you talking about
Paragon was a fun game when I played it with some friends. We never stuck around though because it really liked an identity. It also felt like it was quite literally - not figuratively - polished. The game had this sheen to it that made it look like a bunch of plastic toys. RIP, the lack of direction and character is what ultimately killed it.

I mean, I could understand having that mistake at first, but they walk, stand, and position themselves in entirely different ways. Also, it's extremely unlikely that you're ever going to find a Widowmaker where a Mercy is supposed to be, or vice versa.
The main issue is when Widow grapples. Bright blond hair moving through the sky at a high velocity. You can't necessarily tell if it's Widow with the Nova skin, or Mercy with one of her normal skins at first glance.
This is actually really cool of them. It is neat that they decided to basically immortalize this artwork instead of letting it fade away.
I mean, color-wise, sure. But you don't have anything artstyle-destroying like tf2 had. Imagine how boring skins would be if they didn't change up the colors.
Not going to lie I'm very much tempted to make some games with these assets, free games because fuck the impending asset flip steam shovelware.
The blame for that doesn't at all fall on Epic Games's tho. It's the fault of stores willing to sell/promote the asset flips.
