Currently playing Horizon Zero Dawn and i'm simply impressed by the graphical quality of these PS4 Pro games. Looking forward to God of War
Fucking Teal'c as Kratos man
i wish developers would bring some of the rendering techniques the pro/x use to the pc, no doubt you would get complaints from the pcmasterrace crowd but even a 1080TI cant reliably deliver 4k
A lot of these solutions are specific to that kind of hardware and so while they might in general work, you'd have to account for a far far larger base of technical differentiation between the different cards, CPUs, RAM, and more.
On top of that, most PC developers just expect you to get better hardware instead of actually optimizing their games. There are plenty out there that go that mile such as Doom2016 and Overwatch, but the vast majority of PC only games just expect the game to run better over time due to better videocards and drivers.
It fucking bothers me so much that Kratos, a man previously capable of jumping twice his body height (and sometimes double-jumping) and climbing hard surfaces by stabbing them repeatedly, is now incapable of climbing a simple wall.
This game's riding a trend that's already dead.
Its probably one of the few reasons why I hold developers such as Sony Santa Monica/Naughty Dog/Nintendo in such higher regard versus PC developers.
They squeeze out everything they can and put the effort into it because otherwise the games will clearly show the lack of effort. For PC games? Man just turn down the settings.
Yeah. Like I get a large bulk of PC players are enthusiasts who have bought top of the line hardware to get the best 60+fps/4k experience with all the bells and whistles consoles can't handle. But checkerboard rendering is almost like a free performance boost given the quality/performance ratio it can provide. Sure the artifacts and imperfections are there, but you won't really notice them during actual gameplay, especially if it's a faster paced action game. It's a nice technique for those who want to experience something close to 4k gaming but can't afford top of the line hardware, or if they can, something that can actually stabilize 60fps on 4k resolutions.
The only PC games I know that actually have a form of checkerboard rendering are Watch_Dogs 2, Rainbow Six: Siege and Quantum Break. The best implementation out of the 3 has to be W_D 2 where there's practically no blurring visible, and it's good way to achieve 4k/60fps on modest hardware. Quantum Break is definitely on the blurry side but given that it's a game that relies heavily on global illumination, it looks fantastic for it's trying to achieve. Siege as well looks pretty crisp for the most part, especially coupled with the game's in-game sharpening filter. All games benefit from practically a 20-30% performance enhancement without really sacrificing much visual quality.
Dude's gettin old. His joints dont work like they used to.
I also thought it was bizarre to drop the visceral hack and slash style gameplay for behind the shoulder combat, but it still looks fun and has new combat mechanics so i'm not too worried.
I'm so tired of these types of games. The games where I have to stand around with my thumb up my ass while some AI takes forever to do something. All of that for literally no reason at all.
