I couldn't imagine it would be easy to get elected with a last name like Nixon.
Eh, I can’t help but be wary around celebrities turned politicians.
Nixon is a highly respected name(I acknowledge his massive faults and he's still my favorite) Watergate is a massive shitstain on the history of american government and we still have not recovered from the distrust in government it caused but it did not take Nixon down. After his presidency, Nixon was universally(perhaps not in the US anymore) highly respected as an elder statesman. He went all around the world on diplomatic missions and the chinese loved him. He was highly honored even at his funeral, you would not believe they would hold a ceremony like that for a disgraced ex-president.
So have we not learned our lesson about celebrity politicians at ALL yet? I hope she gets laughed out of her campaign by voters.
Nixon was a giant asshole who spent every living moment with deep, burning black rage and took it out on everyone else. He waged the war on drugs with the intent of targeting minorities, prolonged the war in Vietnam just to win his election, invaded Cambodia, completely fucked up with the last stages of Vietnam and didn't care and he's often credited with starting the Southern strategy. Now, Nixon is far from all bad, you are right, his environment stance was progressive as fuck (not that he did it for the good of the world, just to improve his standing), he opened diplomacy with China like you said and was willing to work with the Democrats which is more than I can say about most GOP politicians but ultimately he was bad dude, the only thing separating Nixon and Trump was that Nixon was extremely intelligent and didn't reveal his truly nasty side to the world for all to see and at least respected the office enough to step down to prevent further damage to it.
That's why he's my favorite. He was someone I could almost relate to. There's just something so fascinating about him. He had no friends, he never opened up to anybody, he was just driven completely by a desire to stand above everyone and win at everything. He's almost like a comic book villain.
...If you can relate to being someone who specifically targeted minorities with domestic pseudomilitary force, I'm not sure what to say to you.
Her motto: "We're now the second most hated name in politics!"
best known for her work on “Sex and the City,”
That seems like literally the 2nd worst credential you could have going into a political race.
why governor, I mean if she was already experienced with a political position like senator or head of education within the state, but I'm tired of seeing another arnold go from nothing (he did have a presence) to governor? And with arnold although a way better all around guy then trump, he did hurt the state of California in certain areas. I would find it more thoughtful if she joined state congress first and became the whip, then move on with that authority and experience to run for governor.
Oh, I realized reading from headlines and mistaken as Daughter/Grand-daughter? for Richard Nixon. She even notice it too. https://nypost.com/2018/03/20/cynthia-nixon-plays-down-last-name-to-avoid-richard-nixon-references/ But if she had running any relevant and good issues facing New York politics and American Left focused right now, She got probably my vote. If I lived in New York.
