https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fY7YONl9AwY Best decision they could've made after closing down the game, would've been a massive waste to see these assets just, gone and not able to be used at all.
SFM porn here we come!
More like Blender, can't really use these models decently in SFM without them being dialled back, Blender though, shaders are nearly as good as UE4 with enough fiddling around.
There's a limitation on model detail because of the Source engine?
It's Source. There's an arbitrary limitation on everything.
I've noticed this quite recently, seems like people is transitioning from SFM into blender, specially when it comes down to animations.
It makes sense. It's such an old engine.
For animating it takes alot longer to get into Blender, but once you understand how to use it, you can work with it alot better than SFM; getting something to look good doesn't take alot in Blender either, few lights, maybe use a HDRI Map, alter the lighting settings and what not, piece of piss, looks fucking filthy, downside however is rendering, in SFM if you've got a fairly standard GPU, it doesn't take too long to render a scene, Blender though, well, shit can take fucking AAAAGES to render, alot more settings to fuck around with, to both optimise and get better, more specific looks.
Wow this is very kind of them. Although it's still giving their engine some value so it's not like it's pure generosity, or even just PR. Still interested to see what comes out of this.
It's the Tower of Duct Tape. For fuck's sake, it's only a few steps away from the Quake engine. Source is like strapping some high-tech reactive armor onto a Radio Flyer wagon and calling it a main battle tank.
That engine is a trooper alright. So many memories. Honestly I never realized just how old it was until right now.
