Anyone else notice this?
Maybe you just need some... High Voltage
correct if wrong but afaik it wouldn't kill your battery any faster than visiting any other website on your mobile browser sounds like you need a new battery
Yeah the site runs fine on my phone, so its probably something to do with your phone
I'd put it to it being very javascript heavy, the old forums weren't so client dependant If you can hold out on this until garry implements the API we can just make a more native client for the phone instead of using the web browser The goal with Facepunch Droid is to rewrite it to react native, which means that it'll also become avaliable on ios
I also notice (on both mobile and desktop) that scrolling really fast will make the forum disappear for a few seconds and then slowly load back in, in squares, only showing the background in the meantime. Don't know if that is to do with VueJS or not.
which browser are you using?
Chrome on iOS. Now that I think, I can't remember if it happens on desktop or not, but definitely on mobile.
Interesting, since Chrome on iOS is just an apple WebKitView (so it's basically just safari at heart) I usually only have this issue too on slow hardware like my tablet and phone
My phone (iPhone 6S) has been going a bit to shit lately so it's probably just me then. Was curious if anyone else noticed this but guess not
Me too, also on my 6S. It's hard to measure of course but it feels like it's gotten far thirstier on FP since the move to newpunch.
The layout is completely fucked on android for me so I'd avoid using it for now. All the animated backgrounds probably don't help with battery/data life either.
Try Facepunch Droid
It says right in the description it breaks with the new forum.
Woops didn't read the description I'm still using the old version (1.8.0) & the layout works fine.
Im using it right now, fully updated and only the dark theme is broken. The only difference in my browsing is going to the new site instead of the old site, I don't think my battery spontaneously dropped in performance massively the same day.
Some modern browsers load webpages in a grid, I think it reduces memory usage and increases scrolling performance (which is a big thing on mobile where scrolling needs to be smooth). You can see how this works here, where the green area is the visible view, and it loads the grid squares around it. If you scroll too fast, the grid squares won't load in time, which is where you see the webpage loading in https://thumbs.gfycat.com/PertinentAdvancedBlackfootedferret-size_restricted.gif
This may be related, my browser seems to be using significantly more CPU time when viewing facepunch (No extension, No External CSS) https://puu.sh/zMbv3.jpg https://puu.sh/zMbxV.jpg I did a short profiling (5 seconds) of the webpage on idle, i don't think you should be getting 40MB worth of json data out in 5 second of profile on a near static webpage Profile-20180321T123731.json It's using more CPU then a web based browser game.
instead of embedding the gfycat gif, embed the gfycat page many more benefits for otherwise the same result Why bother uploading to a website that converts to video when you're going to use the gif regardless 🤷‍♀️ https://gfycat.com/gifs/detail/PertinentAdvancedBlackfootedferret
I guess that would explain the spike in data usage aswell, was blaming it on less wifi usage recently but it's been excessive
I think this is true. Before class my phone battery was around 70% and 1 hour later it's 35%. Checking the battery status shows that the browser used the bulk of it.
