Now that you can't choose an APNG, are existing users with APNG backgrounds going to have them removed? It seems unfair that those who chose to break the rule, would be allowed to keep them.
Whether or not I'm jealous is not the issue!
Just remove those who are literally megabytes in size, which I'm sure was the thing that made garry hurry up and remove the feature before all forum pages became >50mb in size.
I think it would be more fair to remove the background AND refund the coins.
The other option is to allow APNGs and GIFs, which would be nice since avatars can already be animated anyway.
Oh yeah, of course refund their coins. I thought that went without saying, and I guess I'm not sympathetic to people with bandwidth restrictions as I forget that some people have those.
I mean it says it should not be animated in the purchase option so I see no problem with them being removed with no refund to teach them a lesson for making others jealous, I mean breaking the rules.
Please stop changing the rating meanings on your original post. I think animate backgrounds are cool, so I don't agree that they should be deleted.
If you're worried about bandwidth restrictions, then maybe a 2 MB size limit would work, the same as animated avatars have.
Also, most browsers have some form of caching which stores the image in memory to avoid loading it every time. I know with a lot of users this may not make a difference, but overall it saves a bit of bandwidth.
Don't care so much about ratings, man, they're nothing but a joke
but if they're a joke then why do you care about them so much that you want to change the meaning of them?
Because I wanted to see who would mention it, why would you keep changing the rating on the OP every time I updated the OP to include your rating? Same thing... let's not go off-topic though, this isn't a thread about ratings.
only allow APNGs for accounts that are older than 10 years, but no gay anime shit allowed
if i could i would but i dont see an option for that just yet sadly : ((((
I always knew you were on the right side of history @postal
OVER MY DEAD BODY
Actually I just need the coins to change again. I'd rather Garry didn't have to go and slap me.
i wanted to have this as my background
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/516/ae41ff6d-34d2-48e0-83b9-2aa97d73638c/ezgif.com-crop.png
who the fuck cares
What about making them animate only on hovering?
This would probably require the forum to store (and your browser to download) two copies of the background - one animated, one still. Unless there is a way to control APNG animation through JavaScript but I doubt it.
just put a size limit on backgrounds
Probably intensive processing though to parse the APNG each time to grab the first frame for every user that loads a page and display it... I think two copies would still need to be stored. And if it was done client-side, by then they'd have loaded the APNG anyway making the whole process a pointless exercise.
I really want to keep this one, I mean hell it's only 82.7KB, less than many avatars. If it's really that bad then just have garry go serverside and delete any background that's over 1MB or whatever.
Is it really worth the effort though? There's only a handfull of animated avatars now, and only something like 2 of them are "large". Being 2MB and 8MB each or something like that.
Honestly I think we should keep animated backgrounds but limit them to a certain size
Also I thought that they're gifs and not APNGs. Since when chrome brought back apng support wtf?
It's pretty obvious that the intention was never to have them animated. Anyone uploading multiMB files really shouldn't expect to be compensated. The presence of a loophole or oversight doesn't give you license to exploit it.
Besides, it's just 20 coins. Post for a week.
Delete Conna
You've lost your chance of being taken seriously the moment you included that confusing rating crap in OP
Should allow them at the cost of 50coins or something.
I've always wanted to be a martyr!
aPNG can be made a regular PNG just by basically truncating the file, there's no "intensive processing" involved
Fantastic!!!
the joke here is if we were animating I doubt you'd want to target APNG of all things, otherwise this post is pretty much on point
On oldpunch when they reduced the avatar size for blues, they could still keep their larger avatar size if it was bigger before the change happened
