Yeah I assume that whoever had the power to bend after Vaatu was sealed was just left with that power. Then through breeding or other spiritual methods it got distributed to others.

Plus, once Korra opened the spirit portals at the end of the 2nd book, a bunch of people got airbending so I'm assuming the answers to a lot of these questions is "spirit stuff"

Actually I thought the lion turtle was just a species of the several types of turtles out there like the island turtle or that the island turtle was a lion turtle who chose to swim.

Season 1 had growing pains, and Season 2 was the weakest one. But I give props to Season 4 for handling Korra's mental issues due to the end of the last season.
