They finally banned a bunch of subs like shoplifting.
However, they banned a shitload of legitimate and totally legal subs like beertrade. subs like gundeals actually prohibited peer to peer sales, and only allowed links to authorized dealers.
"Stolen goods;
Personal information;
Falsified official documents or currency
The fuck, why were they allowed in the first place?
/r/hardwareswap, /r/gamesale, /r/mechmarket are safe
I would have assumed that all of that stuff was already banned
A lot of the more niche ones probably slipped under the radar for a while. Shoplifting claimed it was a "role playing" sub.
To be honest, I going to kind of miss shoplifting. Reading the sov-cit tier justifications people came up with for "sticking it to the man" were always good for a chuckle.
Shoplifting is such a sad sub like /r/opioids. A bunch of people patting each other on the back for doing bad things and ruining their lives.
A MESSAGE FOR THE PEOPLE
WE HAVE STRUCK BACK AGAINST THE OPRESSORS, INSTEAD OF ONE PACK WE HAVE NOW TAKEN TEN PACKS OF 60% OFF TOMATOS FROM THE FRUIT SECTION
TODAY, TESCO, TOMORROW, THE WHITE HOUSE
I recall seeing similar on Tumblr. And of course it was all people stealing luxury items and non-essentials like make-up.
Opiods is making the frontpage pretty frequently right now. People blatantly posting how happy they are that they scored a bunch of narcotics.
But nope, it's allowed because they want to promote "awareness".
"They"? You mean the reddit staff/mod team?
glad to see /r/hookers is still up and running, i don't know how i'd be able to support myself without it
I remember looking through one time and the front page of /r/opioids had a top post that was like "I just relapsed (pic of heroin in bag) but fuck it! Live fast die young" or something and the comments were like a 70/30 split of "haha go for it bro enjoy responsibly" and "you should really get help". The concern was there but.. Way more encouragement for relapse than you would hope lol
The people posting their "scores".
Yessss, r/shoplifting is finally gone. As a retail employee it enraged me seeing shitheads stealing the stupidest shit and bragging about it online, while our bonuses suffered.
/r/gundeals is down as are a few airsoft subreddits
r/darknetmarkets is down, really Reddit?
Tbh reddit has been making a LOT of mistakes with sub bans imo.
r/shoplifting for example was extremely amusing to read, and honestly I'd wager it was useful to law enforcement too because many posters on there were frankly idiots who gave away too much information about themselves.
I was hoping the title meant they finally banned the_donald, but it was too good to be true
Still not understanding why they tolerate T_D. I guess they just don't want to face backlash? I mean they banned them once before and the T_D retards said they were gonna never come back to Reddit and go to a different site like Voat or whatever, but within a week or two it was back to business as usual. The site would have been better off as a whole if they just nuked it.
It brings them lots of ad revenue, and the bigotry/shitposting/brigading/etc is probably "minuscule" enough in their eyes compared to the amount of ad revenue to where they are content to turn a blind eye to it.
The banning of /r/gundeals seems okay at first sight, but it turns out to be misleading because it wasn't private sales. It was more like, "This gun store chain has this gun off for 20%" and no private sales at all. So it already doesn't make much sense that they banned it as they were only referring people to businesses that can, legally and safely, sell firearms.
The banning of /r/airsoftmarket makes even less sense because those aren't guns, they're literally toys... and the paintball and nerf subs are still fine. It's a big "wtf" from me on this whole situation.
Wasn't there a shoplifting thread on FP at one point? I think I remember taking one peek in there and immediately feeling reviled. Either way I'm glad to see unsavory subreddits disappear.
I think that thread was more "abuse return policies" than anything else. I remember the "big hack" in that thread was to buy an expensive and a cheap bottle of wine and then swap the contents then claim the expensive bottle was bad for a refund and stuff like that.
i doubt it will be for much longer.
There's a lot more subs going to be affected by this, I know for a fact that they're still monitoring subs related to the topic of the banned ones and are quickly taking down any 'replacement' subs, along with them missing a few of them that are likely gonna be gone in a few days.
Also, double asshole rating on my part.. woops.
It's OK though. FAT32peoplehate still exists.
"It's not stealing, it's just fraud!"
Teddybeer runs it.
Even better its easily defeated with exchange-in-place and in-store credit policies so they still keep your money. And since almost every return requires collecting some personal information it gets even funnier when this happens: ~34,000 stores in the US monitor your returns via a third party,..
Sanctionedsuicide was banned, the fuck?
