Hi folks, TLDR: Are all servers having a complete wipe next week? Are there any servers where they are very active in banning people using cheats or servers that are region locked? What works best for quick response to people cheating (we can provide links to videos showing it), the in game report option, the Rust twitter account they use to report bans, something else? We have 5 people who just started playing (2 that mostly farm and socialize, 3 of us that are pretty active) and we've had an experience with people using hacks that makes us question whether we should even invest further time in the game at all. ----------------------- We're a small group, started playing about a week and a half ago. Really digging the FPS/basebuilding combo. We struggled to get familiar with all the quirks of base building. Our first base lasted 3 days, we weren't aware of being able to build twig foundations or that ladders even existed so we expanded in an unwise way. No big deal, it's happens and we learned from it. Our second and third base were both created and destroyed that same day as we were trying to recover before we could upgrade to stone. It was late that evening when we finally found a relatively safe location and got our 4th base up and running. That base is still standing today after 5 days in it. But it almost didn't survive. We had encounters with a group of folks that we thought might be hacking but weren't sure. A couple nights earlier we were trying out our first raid. While doing that, a guy had an SMG that from 200-500 distance away he was repeatedly headshotting us during the night while he was up on a ridge above us in almost complete darkness. Most of the time we never saw him. We chalked it up to him having a lot of hours and just being better but how consistent the headshots were from that distance and with that weapon was sketchy to us. Then last night, we skirmished with a group over an airdrop. They were very accurate, but again, we chalked it up to experience and skill. We got killed a few times, killed them a few times (they were fighting from their tower base right next to the airdrop) but we were able to claim the airdrop with no loss of gear. Later that night 4 of them (unbeknownst to us the guy with the SMG and the guys in the base next to the airdrop were all Korean and were together, I know this because one of our guys speaks some Korean and ran up to their base naked and talked with them) attacked us while we were raiding a base. Almost every single attack that occurred over the next 5 hours were headshots. We have video of them speedhacking, warping through walls and instakilling us with torches, rocks, etc. We had a few spawn based located in the area (learned the hard way we needed to have backup bag plans) and the moment we'd spawn and step outside we'd be headshotted. They were clearly aimbotting, we'd open an exterior door on our main base on the roof, crouch and walk out and a shot would immediately ring out hitting the door where the person's head was the moment they passed the door frame. They used rockets and blew in our base at the top with exactly what they needed to get to our TC with the least effort (3x2x3 base encased in honeycomb) and at this point I'm not chalking that up to luck that was ESP, destroyed the TC, placed their own, then tried to take the rest of the base. We had it loaded with autoturrets which amusingly enough killed them many times over. When they started the assault we were able to move everything of value down to the lower floors so the only thing they were able to loot was a bunch of propane tanks and some oil that we haven't been able to refine (haven't found a BP for it). After getting tired of being killed by our autoturrets they sealed up our base and left. We had numerous bags inside at different points so we were able to respawn inside the base, use our dropbox to pass materials inside we needed, we had a couple C4 already made in a box on the lower level that we had moved down when they started attacking us. We picked out and arrowed down shotgun traps and flame turrets that were tied to the TC auth, cleared the excess walls and doors, blew into the enclosed metal walls they built around the tc they put in, and reclaimed the base. This whole thing right before wipe/complete reset was a learning experience for us. We expected people with far more hours and gear would make life difficult. We knew a wipe was coming for our server and all our effort was going to be for naught in a short time frame. We're cool with that. But this recent experience has demoralized several of our group who don't want to waste further time with the game if people aren't swiftly being actioned for such blatant use of aimhack, speedbot, use of esp to find us immediately upon spawn and see where our tc is, etc. Any recommendations are welcome, and if the honest answer is that there aren't servers where this type of thing is responded to quickly and harshly, then we know we need to find a new game.
Sorry the wall of text functions as deterrent and i will thus skip it as i lack the time to read so much from a stranger asking for help. I will however give you a valueable tip. Start on a server where the playercap is 20-100 preferably 50 etc. this will allow you to start out without worrying about large 10-20 man clans and reduces chances u get raided right away so you can slowly learn yet also play. note: don't build in the open as there are ofc still players on XD
Change servers, lower pop, with an Admin that can monitor the game. Build your base small and inside a cave, or cliff, between rocks or on a mountain top thats hard to get to and cold. Many players don't have a long draw distance so they cannot even see mountain top bases unless they climb the mountain. put spike traps and barricades around your base to make exploring near it trecherous, don't display to much as the more you show the more people will think you have and decide to raid you. Meaning if you have a turret that means you have laptops, hqm, 5.56 ammo, cameras knowing that I would be like yo that small base is worth using some satchels on! Use satchels to hide stuff, don't leave everything in one base, have an area for instance your base is at J8 there is a big boulder near it walk to the boulder and look around for something that cannot be removed and you will remember, run to it drop 3-4 satchel bags and put some guns, hqm, metal frags, ammo, gear in them and bury them. This way if you get raided,no problem grab the satchels and get rolling again! -------------------------------------------- Also try and plan your base as a death course, never have doors in a straight line make raiding super easy, make people turn corners, have multiple doors sometimes leading to nothing, make them think waste resources, have shotgun traps on upper walls, under halfwalls, you can even have a open area where players walk through door ways and fall on spike traps below.
Crow: That's why I put the TLDR at first for those who didn't want to read all the way through a story of our experience here My question isn't about how or where to build, though I appreciate the advice, it is whether or not there are region locked servers or servers that admins are active in banning players fast that do this. We are playing on an official server that has a pop from between 40-110 (low to peak time). Hapis Island I think is the name, a US West server. MarcoMontana: At this point we've done a lot of research about how to build a base and defend it. In the beginning we made a lot of traditional new player mistakes. We're well past that now. We're heavy gamers and while initially we sorta jumped into Rust on a whim, we've been watching videos and reading on base building strategy. This last base we had was only temporarily lost due to cheating, they knew exactly where our TC was inside our base, blew threw everything directly to it with rocket spam then immediately placed a new TC. And I'm not saying that because I'm salty about getting killed or getting raided, I'm saying it because the guy warped through a wall with a torch and was killing us with one shot. They were speed hacking from one spawn point of ours to another just to headshot us the moment we stood up, I went through 4 different sleeping bags in different areas around my main base (off in the distance on a ridge, hidden in a clump of trees, inside little spawn bases we built) and was chain headshotted by the same guy almost instantly upon standing up or coming out of those spawn bases. They were firing headshots at us the moment we left doorways even if the door was covering us as we crouch walked out. And of them, at least 2 have now been banned again and one had only 2.9 hours played in Rust when this all went down so it was probably the same guy with their group that was banned the day before that that showed up in my report action history. Suffice it to say, I appreciate wanting to provide new player base building advice, I'm not looking for that. I'm looking for clarification on which servers have active mods that prevent this kind of stuff from happening (if they exist). Or whether there are region locked servers (the one I play on is populated by a ton of Koreans who clearly enjoy hacking as they get banned nonstop, but often too late and the damage is already done).
Most Official Community servers are good. (has to be official + community) Rustafied Rusty Moose Reddit I will personally be switching off official Facepunch to an official community this coming wipe because the hacker problem is way out of hand, but at the same time I don't want to deal with abusive admins or regular Community. So Official Community is the golden middle.
Excellent. Thanks much, I'll look into those servers.
We have 3 active admins and we are low pop (100 max) Come join us, we wipe the map at 6pm (GMT) tonight [EU] GVG 2x Wiped 15/03
I can talk to my friends and see, quick question though. I read about an update coming out that I thought was next week with a full wipe (blueprints and all). When is that update happening for this server? When it does is it another wipe?
i belive april 5th cause its offical non weekly (forced wipe on thursday
Gotcha, I had my dates wrong. For some reason I thought it was next Thursday but it's the following. Thanks again for all the information.
Another thing is a game on steam called Fortify its basically a micro RUST building engine. I build and test a lot of base theories on this and then try them in game. FORTIFY on Steam
Awesome, thanks much for the link. I'll check it out!
Ya'll happen to be recruiting by any chance? im a new player also but have watch loads and loads of streamers and have a good understanding of the game, for example im aware people can ladder up or boost etc, im solo player right now but looking for a group to raid with! use garage doors man as access to loot room as well man, takes like 9 satchels to destroy it.
