SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. -- There’s a rocky controversy when it comes to school safety in Schuylkill County. The superintendent of the Blue Mountain School District is in the spotlight after telling lawmakers in Harrisburg his students protect themselves against potential school shooters with rocks. “Every classroom has been equipped with a five-gallon bucket of river stone. If an armed intruder attempts to gain entrance into any of our classrooms, they will face a classroom full students armed with rocks and they will be stoned,” said Dr. David Helsel. That was Dr. Helsel testifying to the House Education Committee last week in Harrisburg. Superintendent Says Students Are Armed with Rocks In Case of a S..
America doesn't even seem like a real place anymore
All that playtime in Rust has finally paid off
Unless the students are all professional baseball pitchers, those rocks aren't going to shit but get them killed when they try to use them. And anything less than a direct hit to the head with a rock will most likely just piss the shooter off.
I actually like that at the end of the article it mentions training the support staff for security certifications. It's a nice compromise in wake of idiots like this “It's absurd, arm the teachers,” said a parent in Schuylkill Haven.
Would probably work better if every student was also equipped with a really powerful slingshot.
sounds like he's the only one stoned here tbh
Trust me, I live here and I don't know if its real. But yeah, this isn't going to do anything but probably get more people killed if it happens.
Oh my god it's like neverland if neverland was a place where nobody ever had a good idea instead of nobody ever grew up.
how can these people keep a straight face while saying shit like that
Do they get throwing lessons along with that?

You sure that superintendent's last name wasn't Chalmers?
I remember one time, here in England, my school had an incident where a kid stabbed some guy with scissors. We all wish we were armed with rocks back then.
Considering that it's better than what my school has in place I'd consider it an improvement over most. When I was in highschool some 10 years ago the standard procedure was to lock the doors and hide in a corner. If someone made it through we were supposed to throw canned goods and chairs at the intruder. It's honestly not a bad policy to have in general. Take guns away and you're still going to get nut jobs trying to go inside schools and doing all sorts of shit.
Even for school shooters the natural human response when projectiles are coming at you is to throw your arms up to block as much as you can. It's not as crazy as it sounds when written on paper. You cause the attacker to enter a defensive state, and it may just open up wide enough of a window of opportunity for them to be disarmed.
this is more of a Skinner move than a Chalmers move
And of course its PA. God Dammit.
If they're really going for this, why can't they just hand out bricks or cinder blocks instead At least then there's a chance you could crack a rib or something
