The way Max just flips his shit in this is just amazing tbh
Nice, I'd been waiting to hear what he had to say. I always felt the third one got a lot of unfair flack despite being a really solid game.
Its one of my favourite stories in video games. Came out at the same time I was learning about, and making Cinema Nouveau style films in school so it has a special connection for me.
I liked 3 more than 2 tbh.
Is the only available quality right 360p?
Pretty recent upload, most likely still processing and going on and off on quality options. Give it a refresh and check back after a bit.
I've been waiting for this.
I fucking loved this game. Best ragdoll physics I've ever seen. I could watch those final kill cams for hours. Soundtrack was incredible too. One of the few times I went out of my way to download it. I'm still listening to it.
My problem with this game is that the first and last thirds are filled with segments where you play for like 30 seconds before having control snatched away from you. It's especially infuriating when the game just holds your camera and doesn't go into a regular cutscene. The bit where you have to cover Raul with a sniper rifle is one of the most infuriating things I've ever played. Who thought it was a good idea to constantly take control away from the player and force them to aim directly at Raul? How is that helpful?
the only reason I didn't like 3 was the fact there was a cutscene that takes control away from you every 5 minutes
This, the pacing in 1/2 was fine. The story was great in both, and 2's maps were so neat. I played the apartments level in 2 like 100 times because it really felt like an apartment with people living in it. Like the neighbor that gives you his shotgun. 3 just felt like, setpiece, wave defense, cutscene, setpiece, wave defence, cutscene, ect.
I played multiplayer more than any average person would come to think about it. Even tried the co-op map. PvE was okay at best, but the multiplayer was quite fun. It was difficult to find matches, though, especially for DLC maps(that me and my friend got for cheap thanks to Steam sale). Singleplayer I really liked. Like, yeah, I know it's half cutscenes and half gameplay, but I'm fine with it because the gameplay moments were paced well in my experience with the game.
I've gone back and tried to replay Max Payne 3 twice now in the past couple years because I fondly remember the great ragdolling and shit. Both times I've gotten a couple hours in and had to stop. It's just so annoying to try to play it. It's literally more cutscene than game, at least in act 1. Rockstar really fucked it up in my view. Not only did they really overdo the amount of cutscene in the game, the cutscenes themselves are usually pretty annoying with the constant lame effects like the strange colours and blurring. They're fairly well written and acted but shit nonetheless because some asshole tried too hard to be creative. The gameplay is still great but I can't force myself to actually play the game anymore because I don't have the patience for the cutscenes. I'd rather play MP1 or 2 just because the gameplay isn't constantly interrupted.
If they made it possible to skip cutscenes this would be one of my favorite games, I just love the shooting in it so much.
You can. The problem is that they hide loading times for the next section, and there's a silent "grace period" of mandatory loading that even an SSD can't beat before you're allowed to skip.
You guys are aware there's a mod that forces the Skip button on all cutscenes now right? https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/408331109265309696/409599705803128833/SkipCutscenes.asi And here's the Scripthook that you need to run the mod. https://unknownmodder.github.io/maxpayne3
Is that paulstretched background music I hear?
This one scene always cracks me up and I'm not sure why. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX4fo6xUfAA
I wish rockstar would remake mp1 and 2. Keep the game levels the same, inject mp3s physics and gunplay. Maybe remove the mp3 weapon limit too.
The game would've been perfect if you weren't forced to watch part of the cutscenes before you can skip them. That's what pissed me off the most.
the reason for this is because the cutscenes are literally load screens would you rather they took you out of the game entirely and had a load screen?
Always wondered why I loved the setting so much in this game. The comparison to City of God makes it obvious now.
At least the cutscenes have something going on instead of you just watching a loading bar fill up.
6 years already, sheesh, how time flies.
BECK-ER!
If you cant skip cutscenes then your computer is probably taking a while to load stuff because the game has always had a skip function for cutscenes
It's a great way to hide cutscenes, but if you're trying to play it for a second or third time and know the story, it does get a bit annoying when you want to just get to gameplay.
I play through Max Payne 3 every couple years and I never skip the cutscenes. I never played the first two before playing the third but I absolutely adore max's dialogue and cynicism in every cutscene. Especially on PC where 90% of the cutscenes are in engine and run at 60 frames per second, the game still holds up as absolutely gorgeous even today. I don't really have the time to invest in multiplayer ranked games, so having a linear heavily story based game of this precedence is great to work in while I'm not busy. It makes you feel like an absolute badass and while I play all my stress and anxiety just washes away. I know there are several games like this like Alan Wake and pretty much any hack and slash game but MP3 will always hold a place in my heart.
The shooting mechanics and euphoria physics in this game made it so replayable for me, even if the game is heavy on the cutscenes. personally i found the club shootout to be the best mission. the lighting and atmosphere is so damn good
