• Students attacked during protest at University of Montpellier, Dean applauds it

A group of men in balaclavas carrying batons and tasers attacked students occupying a lecture hall at Montpellier University. Some of the attackers have also been identified as faculty members. But in Montpellier, where police apparently refused to intervene when a group of students occupied a law faculty lecture hall, some of the men who attacked the students have been recognized as faculty members. A far-right blog also attributed the attack to the GUD, a violent fascist group. Four students were hospitalised, including two with serious skull injuries. Source: https://libcom.org/news/brutal-fascist-attack-student-occupation-university-montpellier-24032018 Best source I could find in English. Basic rundown is that students were protesting against a reform as a bunch of dudes wearing balaclavas came in and started beating the shit out of them with planks, and the dean of the faculty of law applauded the assault which prompted even more protests leading to his resignation. They were likely part of a fascist group but nothing is confirmed thus far.
I'm having a hard time finding other sources that corroborate this story (that isn't Breitbart) but that's because of the recent terror attack where that police man who swapped places with a hostage died also took place in Montpellier. Though if this is true this is super troubling news. Faculty attacking students with Dean support is incredible and in some ways a sign of the times. Europe is undergoing some serious racial and social upheaval. Seeing the rice of reactionary Right Wing groups is worrying.
What. the. f u c k.
At least the Dean got so assblasted by protests that he had to resign. Still a massive dickwad.
Shit man. The whole reason for being the Dean of a school should be about helping young people to grow. For this idiot to applaud beating up the people who were under HIS tutelage is the opposite of everything a person in that position should stand for.
The french have always been goofy about politics, but i didn't expect downright fascists to barge into places. You'd think the french of all people would have been soured on that kind of thing.
It's just the usual fascist/antifa clash, similar to what's been happening around the globe for a while, don't see how France is special in that regard. I guess the particularity here is that the fascists in question were faculty members who wanted the blockade to end and somehow thought cracking some students skull was a good way to do it.
Also a difference is that the protesters weren't really "antifa" as much as concerned students protesting a reform, which happens every time a reform's about to hit. It was less of a clash and more one-sided assault and battery.
Yeah I was kinda caricaturing, it's just a group of students with left-wing inclinations.
