I think my favourite thing about Data, is that he always lamented being programmed without emotion. I believe he had them since episode 1, because he always seemed the most emotional out of the entire cast.

Let's not forget that Data is fully functional...and got laid in episode 3 of the series. It seemed like something the directors wanted to get out of the way as soon as possible.

what's more because he didn't have intercourse the rest of the series you can exactly determine the length of time between episode 3 which was the first actual episode and the movie first contact

Yeah he's great. I worked with him doing voice acting on a project for my dad, and his agent was all "oh don't bring up the Data thing" despite him being picked for the role because of his android voice, but Spiner himself was the first one to bring Data up and loved to talk about it. It was great. He's great.
I wonder if Gene himself had a hand in making sure this happened.
