I've noticed that the Modelling forum has seemingly no modelling in it to speak of. It's pretty much all models people have ripped from other games converted to Source with no one posting models they made themselves. That's been pretty standard for the forum for a couple years, but now that we've migrated to the new forum, I think it'd be cool to implement a subforum for all the model rips and model hacks (models made from hacking multiple existing models together) and put them in their own separate forum. I feel like this would give modellers incentive to post their own work as it won't be buried under a hundred "Models from <game>" or "Anyone got models from <game>?" threads.
A Model Requests subforum would be cool too for the same reasons, but I believe that's been tried before in the past and didn't really work due to people not visiting the Requests subforum, so as far as I care the Model Rips subforum could include requests for model rips and the main thread could include requests for custom models.
I feel like this would divide up the content of the forum rather well and possibly bring more people to the forum who want to post content they've created without driving away people who just want to rip models from other games.
The Creationism Corner already provides a good place for people to post their work if they wanted to. It's probably a good thing that the majority of the Modelling section is ripping, porting and hacking related since it may not be able to stand on it's own otherwise.
Eh, Creationism Corner never really struck me as the place to go to post models you've made for games. There's a thread for 3D art, but that's it.
There's more than enough interest in model rips and hacks for it to thrive on its own in a subforum. I mean at the moment that's pretty much what the Modelling forum is, so just moving it to a subforum shouldn't change that. People would just click a different link directly under the old one they would click to find it.
I was more talking about how there's probably not enough interest in a Modelling section without the rips, hacks and ports. If you moved those to a separate sub-forum I don't think you'll see a lot of activity in the main Modelling section.
Modelling forum is for modelling, if you start to break it down too much it'll become an empty void.
We've experienced this in the past and also have the inverse over the last few years where megathreads ate everything within a forum section.
Models you make for games are welcome on the 3D art thread. That's pretty much what it's used for, 3D stuff you make. It confused me too when I started modelling that the modelling section was not the place to go.
I always thought it was a bit weird that this particular doctrine of piracy is allowed in the forums, tbh.
I think that the moderators should decide on either:
1 - Disallowing piracy, including the model ripping / sharing stuff.
2 - Allowing piracy as a whole.
It's not like modelling forum is so insanely active that it needs to be split in subforums
