way better than i can do thats for sure
A buddy of mine likes to paint on the wheels and the signs and stuff. He has a little kid who loves Elmo so he's constantly drawing what he calls Rustmo's. He puts Elmo in Rust situations, often hardened looking, scruffy with a cigar and beard scruff or similar. Here's one of them: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238509/67037475-bbe8-4c2d-9d2b-70c99f07fe55/rustmo.jpg
wouldnt mind seeing more posts like these nice art
Here's a couple more I found on our Discord. Again, not mine, I make the OP here look like he's Picasso :p https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238509/05a4eaad-3443-4f57-93e2-fd788a111001/rustmo2.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/238509/7beeea7a-df7e-4c96-9c99-ebed884898e2/kcrazyPainting.jpg
Oh man that last one is incredible. I can't believe how good some of these are.
anyone know (or any artist can comment) - do you guys use drawing pads to make these? I can never seem to make anything decent with just the mouse...I have used the pad a bit in the past (not in Rust), so Im curious if the pad is the way to go?
I know the guy who did the ones I linked above uses a device of some kind, it wasn't a standard tablet, he said the name of it and I can't think of it offhand. But he said it's the top of the line device that people who do stuff like that on computers use and it sounded like he uses some sort of stylus with it and not the mouse. I can ask him tonight when I see him on.
yep, def sounds like a pad (they come with a stylus), like this one i had a couple years ago: https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-Intuos-Touch-Tablet-CTH490AK/dp/B01MSJWRH1/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_147_lp_t_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=RJKK9V7X1YGSZW0BPPDJ
10/10 paintings on dis thread
That's fucking amazing. Rustmo is my mascot now. Kudos, dude. Your buddy is great. (You're cool too!)
Rustangelo
Do you really paint them yourself or do you use them as the user before me already mentioned Rustangelo. If you painted them yourself without helping, then you have my respect. Awesome! @Crow one word posts are not allowed.
Ok fine i thought it was quite painfully obvious but ok here goes... Steam has something called Rustangelo which hijacks the mouse control and paints anything you can find a picture of in high quality, it is free unless you want to paint far larger pictures and you can paint literally anything... It is hard to tell if you used rustangelo or not and if not then u can always use a wacom board & pen if you got it but if so i still recommend drawing in another program and make rustangelo draw it in rust as honestly speaking the drawing tools in rust are horrendous and if you truly draw it with a mouse thats quite lucky & skilled.
Ah, I didn't even know what it was until you explained it here. No, I can tell you for a fact it's not Rustangelo. He's an artist by trade and these aren't the only one's he's done. I bet half his play time is spent standing in front of a wheel or paintable object doing this kind of stuff. I've had to ask him to update it and move out of the way plenty of times because I couldn't get through to room I needed to get into He hasn't been on tonight but I was going to follow up with him and see if he wants to share any more of his stuff, also find out the technical stuff to answer some questions for people here.
They should allow people to pre-paint a picture... you can draw a lot better if you draw within a locked room than if you stand outside in the open and if they permitted it then you could also move pictures around without having to re-draw it.
I'm no artist. Rust is the first time I've ever been good at anything artistic. I use my $15 dollar mouse and I paint outside. The top picture I actually had to back out of and hide from a heli half-way through. Oddly, I have this sort of unnatural luck with raiders. Mostly people come by, shoot me, notice my painting, pick me up, and compliment me. I've even had a few people try to recruit me to their clans just so I could paint for them, and obviously, I'm not nearly as good as Rustmo. Its like this one time I sold AKs for 40 chocolate bars so people would start killing each other for chocolate - my absolute favorite thing about solo Rust is how you can convince people to be kind to you by just being interesting.
Yeah, your stuff is good too. The friend who does the Rustmos is a professional artist by trade so he's got many years of experience on you I'm betting. Keep going man, your stuff will look like that in no time. On the other hand my stick figure stuff will continue to look like a 4 year old drew it, just no aptitude there hehe.
I'd like to see facepunch adopt more Rustmos into the actual game!
Wow, thanks dude
Crossed paths with my buddy last night who drew all that and got caught up in pvp and completely forgot about this. Still want to ask him what software/hardware he uses and if he has any more of his Rust art laying around to share
This thread reminds me that a lot of what keeps me in Rust is player-driven.
