• Option to disable background images?

Could we get a preferences option to disable background images, please? This shit is rapidly getting more annoying than ye olde Eyecancer signatures. Doesn't help that this shit keeps popping out and flashing/glitching on my browser when I scroll (chrome, desktop), if not outright crashing it (safari, tablet).
You can add this to your custom CSS to disable user backgrounds for now: .postrender .postinner>.postuser .background-image, .postuser:hover .user-card { display: none; } As for it becoming an actual feature in Newpunch, garry probably won't do anything about it when he's already given us access to custom CSS to do things like that.
What about people who don't know how to write CSS? This is super user unfriendly.
but you don't have to write any CSS you just put it in the box and call it a day
I don't want to try it on my own browser, but couldn't you right click a background and block it with ublock or something similar? Works for most website functions, I'd assume it'll work for backgrounds.
He just wrote it for you???
yeah ctrl+c and ctrl+v spare my fingers please
im pretty sure Lowland means for future convenience other than removing background images my man. if for whatever reason there's anything else you want to modify in the forum's appearance, make a request in the facepunch ricing central thread or for the best, try to learn CSS along with using inspect element, it's easier than you think.
If Garry was to implement toggles and options for every single feature on the site instead of users making a two second request for some CSS then the option page would be endless
But I have to drag it all the way from this thread to my preferences can someone do this for me? Jinx 657regyugh46
means there shouldn't have to be a manual hack for it, it should be built right into the software, which it should There's a blurred line on whether a feature should be done with a custom solution or not, and this is finely within that where it should be implemented Besides, a builtin solution would have it not have references to images at all, which is generally preferred for proper web antics
Counter Strike Source what else
It's not a hack; if it was a hack, you'd have to install web plugin/addon to run custom CSS on Facepunch like the old forum. Now you have a box you can paste any custom CSS into, right on the site. Anytime you want to edit the site's visual features, you can just ask someone (or learn how to do it yourself).
Don't wanna sound offensive, but if those people aren't able to lookup what CSS means, well I guess they're going to have other problems than user backgrounds on here pretty soon.
this isn't an excuse not to though When was the last time you found a forum without the option to disable avatars? Besides, if you'd be fighting this, have you know there's an option to enable a full width version of the site, something that can easily be done with inputting whatever text into a box No one should have to have to understand basic web technology to provide at most basic features that should come standard in a forum.
Looks like they're going to learn! Good for them.
I think background images are an integral part of the new FP look, so if you desperately want to get rid of them, the custom CSS really makes it easy, but it sure as shit shouldn't be a feature.
But you don't have to understand it, you can just ask someone to write you some CSS and copy paste it. Yes, having lots of options to enable/disable some visual features of the forum would be nice, but realistically I don't think garry is going to invest time into doing it when we already have the ability to throw CSS into a box.
Ctrl+C -> Click your Username -> Click Preferences -> Click the box -> Ctrl + V It is literally five minuscule steps. If my grandma could do it then anyone browsing an internet forum for a gaming company should be able to do it. It's not hard.
I agree it should be an option, if only for mitigating data usage if that's a necessity to you. Especially for mobile users.
Aside from ones which were uploaded before that change was put in place, which is a lot of them.
If data usage is what you're concerned about I'd rather have a mode that removes or replaces all images/media with links, instead. Backgrounds ain't shit by comparison if you stumble into a wrong thread and there's a shitton of images and videos.
A CSS request megathread like the avatar request megathread would be cool if there's demand for it.
there's already one on the front page: Facepunch Ricing Central
Not having basic options in a forum options/preferences menu is ridiculous. Imagine going in a videogame and find out there's no options menu to let you tweak the game so it runs optimally on your system, and when you bring it up people go "Just type the commands into the console, brah". That's how stupid this argument is.
I've never seen anyone complain about having to manually alter cvars in source games because they aren't exposed in the menus. Even ones that are required to even get the game to run sometimes. If you're likening this to video games, then custom CSS is more like your autoexec.
The custom CSS box is for all your "I personally don't like [x] feature of the forums, I'm going to change it" needs. You wanna compare it to videogames? This isn't "what the fuck why can't I change my resolution," this is "I don't like this weapon's texture, I'm going to mod my game to replace it."
