If there's one thing Apple is good at it's not fucking around
yeah there was a interview from tim cook yesterday where he delivered sick bantz Apple CEO Tim Cook says Facebook should have regulated itself, b.. Swisher posed a question for Cook: What would he do if he were Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg? His answer: “I wouldn’t be in this situation.”
I don't really give a damn. Apple is just as scummy as Facebook. Tim Cook taking the moral high ground is really ironic considering that his company is playing an active role in censoring the Chinese internet.
How is Apple playing an active role in censoring the Chinese internet?
Fairly certain the whole “Chinese iCloud data stored on servers in China where they can be searched by authorities” thing was forced by regulations
I mean, it's all forced. So was the deletion of vpns from the app store. You have to suck the Chinese goverment's dick if you want to do business over there. The point is companies have no right to morally grandstand about facebook if they're just as willing to screw up the internet in the name of profit.
And Android/Google, one of the first companies to jump on PRISM, and a company literally known for its scumminess, is better than Apple, who held out until the very end, who refused to unlock even a single phone for the FBI, and who encrypts your internet history? I get that not everyone likes what Apple does but to say that they are a scummy company when it comes to privacy is ridiculous.
Android does give you the choice break away from both their's and government surveillance, even if it's through un-offical ways. While iOS resists government probes for data, they are still able to monitor your data themselves.
You'd still need the google app bundle to effectively use the phone and I have no trust that google treats my data with any respect.
AOSP programs can preform basic functions fairly well, that combined with F-Droid (FOSS plau store replacement) gives you a good set of applications to work with.
As far as I know you'd need the google play services installed to have stuff like push notifications etc. You might be able to use basic apps etc but you won't be able to use the device effectively.
Effective use of the device depends on the user. For people like me, who don't want to use Google's products, we can still use Android. You just can't do that on Apple. But I agree that for your needs and many others there isn't a ideal mix of functionaility and privacy.
Apple does a lot of wacky shit business- and consumer-wise but user privacy and security seems to be one thing they really don't fuck around with.
Apple isn't allowed to criticize Facebook being shady and invasive and letting your data be used to manipulate your democracy because they operate in China? Sorry, that just doesn't make sense to me.
Holy shit they didn't reply to that guys ticket in over a month?!
if that's a rdar:// then that guy's lucky, he at least got a response (radar is apple's developer bug reporting platform, it's known for being awful in terms of company feedback)
iOS 11.3 (11E216) appears to have sync removed, so it’s totally gone as of yesterday If macOS 10.13.4 didn’t remove it expect it to be gone in 10.13.5
wasn't that the same interview where he took shots at amazon for their data practices and headquarters search as well
