Yet another reason why dealerships are archaic, consumer abusing shit.
So many warnings signs should have flashed over this guys head. If the car dealership won't accept cash and asks you to go on a payment plan you'd best be realizing something is fishy when you have cash front. Of course it does seem like normal practice, but what confuses me is why anyone would ever sign a document that they couldn't see the terms of. In fact, I'd never sign any documents unless I've gotten a copy of the document for self reading or gone to an attorney for legal expertise on what I am getting myself into.
Sucks to hear about this loophole though, it fits all the checkboxes for what a loan is. Yet is legally something else completely different.
Thankfully the guy got the deal unwinded and the case settled. But not everyone will take the steps like he did and it's a real shame to see this scummy behavior come to pass on people who have no idea about this loophole to begin with.
Car dealerships suck.
Right? It sounded like he had the cash to buy the car at the advertised price outright. If they want you to finance it when you have cash in hand, you walk the fuck away.
