I'm not sure I understand what they were going for with the Devil may cry stuff and then showed the reboot which from a gameplay perspective was nothing compared to the originals
As flawed as the reboot is it actually is pretty close to the Japanese style DMC-esque action game style, probably the closest that a western dev has come to it. It just lacks polish and commits some grave game design sins like cutscenes in the middle of bossfights.
Yeah, this video sucks. A crowbcat wanna-be negativity wankfest that breeds a toxic comment section and community that adds nothing to the larger conversation about the game.
The new God of War didn't lose its identity, it got a new one - just like its developers did. Over the course of the series they became fathers and wanted to tell a newer and more personal story about a character that desperately needs an influx of depth.
With a thumbnail and title like that I was expecting someone actually talking about the game and making points, not just a video showing changes in the attitudes behind the games and expecting everyone to immediately jump onto the "UGH THIS NEW THING SUCKS BECAUSE IT'S DIFFERENT" train they're on.
Lmao check out the comments on the video. I've never seen that many insecure children in one place before.
It blows my mind that this video even exists let alone that its not held in an ironic point of view. In my opinion the direction it is going is solid and sound one for the modern game market. If I had to guess why there is this uproar about this its because its not the same power fantasy it used to be. I guess the face fucking and pussy slaying attitude the old games put off do wonders for a self esteem and sense of self worth that is on the verge of being non existent.
I'd rather have a series die trying to do something new and unique for itself
than for it to die an even more painful death than it otherwise would by not trying to do anything new at all
God of War as a franchise has never been my favorite type of gameplay, and that combined with Kratos seeming to have no traits other than being a lusty asshole (at least until I stopped playing) kind of just turned me off the series.
So in my case, the re-imagining can really only get better. I'm relatively excited about the franchise for the first time since like 2007.
I'm not interested in the re-imagining because while the older games were shallow in a few ways, they were at least derivative of a very niche genre and as such still somewhat separated themselves from the rest.
Now the series is derivative of a genre I feel is already on its last legs. The slow paced companion-based story-driven adventure game is not one I'm as interested in as I am with loud and bombastic character action games.
I'm sure people will praise this game the same way the Tomb Raider reboots are praised, but these aren't titles I'm willing to really delve into because every time I try them, the painfully slow and derivative framework in which they operate just gets the better of me.
The new style has piqued my interest, I lost interest after 3 because the series didn't seem like it was doing anything new.
i just wish they used an actual Norse legend rather than a Greek one.
