I really miss this man. He was one of the first content creators I ever watched. He seems to cool and down to Earth but just watching him wither away like he did was depressing.
Spoony was one of the best out there. It makes me sad his health issues and ego prevented him from continuing.
Man LordKat was really REALLY angry. I feel bad for spoony but at the same time he dug his own grave even though I was once a loyal fan.
Used to be a Big Spoony fan, his fall from fame still upsets me a lot.

That Lupa reaction is still one of the most disgusting things to happen to him, yeah, it was awful for what he says, but Lupa's only running joke was to constantly joke about a scene possibly being rape.

Lupa bridged a gap between BDSM and rape that I personally didn't even see. Given it was still creepy as fuck but I always assumed Spoony's crass humor was more about shit like sex dungeons and whatnot than it was about literally violating someone without their consent. Fuck, the very start of the joke is him making an offer to whatsherface, he's not even threatening shit.
I checked out some of his newish streams and the guy really seems like he's sincerely trying to get better, it's obvious he's not that good at taking criticism as he speaks about people writing him online. It might seem like mudsligning at this point, but with the gathered attention after this video i can't help but think he doesn't deserve more shit. He's obviously not having a great time just by looking at his body language on his streams, i don't know. He just seems to be in a really sad state, just seems like he's learned his lesson but the shit just keeps packing up.

LordKat is no fucking saint. LordKats behavior in the video is downright deplorable, it's not shown in this video but he ends his rant with saying Spoony should kill himself. He blames Noah for his lack of success and yet if you look at his content from before the whole XCOM debacle he was very niche. LordKat would spend may streams complaining about his shitty job and other mundane shit about how he has a shit job despite his qualifications and other crap. LordKat has basically gone the exact same way as Spoony, except without the mental issues. LordKat USED to have a terrible website complete with archives of every single stream he had ever done. Now? It's just a dedicated page with his livestream feed, all his old content is gone.
Lupa shouldn't have beaten him into the ground about it a month later, when he already apologized for the tweet.
While I do agree with this his subsequent behavior when it was dug back up did him zero favors.
I mean he literally said that he was going to rape her friend and kept repeating the same mistake over and over, I think he deserved it.
It's pretty fucking rich coming from a woman who constantly made the same rape joke over and over again to suddenly get butt-flustered over a creepo joke (which was more about sexual deviancy than flat out rape).
Spoony was the first Internet personality I followed back when I was like 14 or something, me and my friends practically grew up on some of his videos. I remenber laughing so hard at some of his reviews that I felt physically sick (Back in the golden days of Phantasmagoria and FF reviews). TBH I was too young to really follow his downfall so this video was really great for me, I remember when he started focusing a lot on the wrestling content was when I finally stopped following him.
Really a shame that it turned out that way for him, I wish him the best even if his chance at being an internet personality has basically died at this point.
The first video I saw of Spoony's was the the The Thing review.
I heard about him when someone mentioned that Yahtzee recommended him.
What a fucking bummer. I personally think that he definitely should not have made that joke but at the same time it does not appear to have been a distinct expression of wanting to rape someone, more like a misplaced mention of him having a sadomasochistic sexuality, and it backfired horribly.
I find his situation to be very depressing and I empathize with him, I do not believe that he is inherently a bad person but unfortunately his unstable behavior ended up with him being a villain.
What he is doing currently appears to be a mystery, it sucks that he stopped perusing what he loved doing.
Lordkat's place in all this is so bizarre, as he was super in the right to call him out, but then had like the biggest breakdown ever and basically went through what Spoony did hyper condensed into like, less than a year.
Though basically everything at Channel Awesome was fucked, one of the guys running everything, Mike, is genuinely insane and at one point during 2015 just started firing people for no reason.
also as of right now, channel awesome is having a mass exodus because Mike and subsequently Doug are being called out for shitty, unorganized directorial behavior, attempting to push actors and collaborators to do shitty rape scenes in their comedy movies together, and having the lady doing PR at the company be walked home with doug and/or rob with a baseball bat and a sword because they were afraid their former COO would come after her. now, linkara and a couple others are out of the company and ousting Mike on twitter (the resetera post is the easiest way i've been keeping track of all this.)
it's all going to hell.

By the time Youtube content started to evolve to a lot of higher quality stuff, that's when i noticed that a lot of TGWTG/CA content wasn't that good. It was only OK at the time because there was barely any video content at the time.
Counter Monkey honestly got me interested in tabletop games.
I think it's also just that a lot of us have grown up since then, and the video's are really old. The humor in a lot of the older NC or TGWTG video's is just really dated.
But there are other video content producers (not from TGWTG/CA) from around the same time that i still think are alright going back to them, even if a bit dated.
From 5k a month to barely 550, solely because he just couldn't be fucked to actually make videos and preferred to fuck around.
I don't feel even a little bit bad for him. A personality that abrasive and toxic just can't sustain itself for too long, even disregarding what passes for a schedule.
Jesus, going through that chain of Channel Awesome stuff, Mike is dumber than I could have possibly imagined, no wonder many of the people on the site had so many breakdowns.
