Saw it an hour ago, went in with low expectations.
Worst movie I've seen since Suicide Squad.
I thought it was terrible. How the fuck does old man Spielberg think playing 80s pop songs in the year 2045 is at all relevent. The music is 65 years old by then. Imagine if a period piece for 2018 played shit from the 1940's due to its supposid relevence to the '18 zeitgeist.
So I know what he looks like but even seeing him talk I still have a hard time associating his voice with his face.
the 80s should be deleted from history and Ready Player One is proof
yea man why the heck do people still use pieces composed by bach and beethoven? shit's old man, get with the times, play some skrillex.
Actually there's an in-universe reason for that, of all the things to shit on RP1 for (and there's many), that's like the least of them
are you seriously comparing 80s pop garbage to bach and beethoven? get some fucking perspective
So was this really was the black panther for the nerds?
There's a reason for it in the setting. The world is obsessed with the 80s because the guy who invented the MMO-VR-internet they all use was a lonely billionaire who left his inheritance to anyone who could figure out his nostalgia-saturated wild goose chase puzzle.
It was a pretty decent popcorn flick. As I expected, nearly all of the stuff that wouldn't play on screen was immediately chucked and, though that means we don't get to see teenagers desperately trying to be John Cleese and company acting out a scene from Monty Python and related things, we got theShining, which was handled great in my opinionand other such good editorial decisions such as giving Artem1s better reasons for being in the plot that aren't 'but Aech istoo not-pretty to be the romantic interest' and entirely cutting the world's most pathetic teenager 'but i love you and not your body, please go out with me' three chapters of desperation, porn, and B.O. arc.
What was done with the Caretaker was clever and works much better than it did in the book. I'd give it a solid 7/10 for nerds going on a nerdquest to find nerdeggs to win madnerdcash and total control of the interenet except on tuesdays and thursdays I guess. One of my only major complaints with the narrative is the whole 'Reality is real' shtick - it just came off as preachy and discordant with the universe the movie and book paints.
The most important I KNOW WHAT THAT IS SO I'M HAPPY of our time.
So important.
classical is garbo tbh
maybe if beethoven had composed any eurobeat he might be good
Mindlessly hating on the 80's is just as annoying as all the people fetishizing its boring pop songs and """aesthetics""". Tons of great art came during the 80's.
you know what else came in the 80's? the fall of the soviet union. well it began in the 80s. and that's bad
the fucking classical plebeian taste on you, real men of taste listen to this

The most redeeming factor of this movie is now we can hear Critikal saying "I love you"
