Could this mean pressure on the vatican to remove the Taiwan embassy?
I'm surprised China allows catholicism in the first place. It's interesting to see what lengths they'll go to in order to consolidate the loyalty of the citizenry to "the party".
From what I understand, there's just too many of them to outright ban.
And with the fact that many bishops run their church underground anyway means that the Chinese government can't monitor or regulate it. Now, they'll be able to while legalizing them under this deal.
