"Rust has encountered an error and must close" on launch

When I launch the game it gives me this after a few seconds:

I recently upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7, and I didn't have this problem before.

I had this myself for a couple of months, no other solutions worked for me apart from this one:

Go into your steam folder, and under steam apps there should be a folder named "Steam.dll" or "SteamAPI.Dll" and delete that folder, then download that same folder again.

If yours says Steam Dll: Steam.dll

If yours says Steam API Dll: steam_api.dll

Then paste that file back into the same place, run steam as administrator then hopefully it should work for you.

I found a fix. You just have to delete your client config in the cfg folder in rust.
