The man who had the dream of getting past that skybox had found this after getting shade, hoping to use it for shade, he packs his stuff ready to stay inside there. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ So this took me about 4 to 5 hours to create, creating the tedious sand prop by prop, the cables which are a pain to create, the citizen from Half Life 2 being posed nicely (Or atleast I tried), the composition of the image and the believability of the image. The plot of this artwork is based on Vioxtar's "Server Dust" image series if anyone knows of that. The plot basically means: Imagine when you join a server and you get a little excited, well this happened to the character displayed in the image, he joins a sandbox server and wants to get past that skybox, to the lands past it, to the uncharted lands in which no man shall tread. One day he got his wish, a cunning admin with a bad reputation realised he wanted this as he was flying straight into the skybox with strange contraptions, each one different from the last, the admin told him he could get there, he just needed help, without anyone being able to say anything the admin grabbed him with his Physics Gun and dropped him out there in the forever expanding desert that makes up the skybox. He walked and walked but he could not find an end to it, only finding an occasional structure or two. The skybox being outside the Region of Administration (yet again the server you play on) means it has no power, see when you're inside a Region of Administration, your Physics Gun and Tool Gun have all the power you want, but outside, you shall charge it. So the story is a sandbox player got stranded in the skybox, which isn't how skyboxes work but I have slightly edited it for the plot. Thanks for any feedback
The lighting is absolutely nonsensical. The scene seems to have several suns judging by the shadow direction you also need to kick up your graphics settings
This is a very nice try. You should hold right click with the camera selected and drag mouse upwards to get a better field of view next time. I think what Joazzz means by nonsensical lighting is that the shadows on the ground are cast from the back forward while the concrete walls are illuminated from the top. It's a good attempt, keep trying and you'll only get better over time.
Yeah, I only noticed that until he mentioned it, thanks for the feedback
look here for example, especially the broken wooden beams in the middle https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1884/b7485c03-5896-4cc5-bb43-579cfe17690e/image.png i don't know if it's the anti-aliasing that's lacking, or the image quality, but there's a crapton of pixelation here. if it's the anti-aliasing and it truly is at the fullest, you need to either get a new graphics card or take the screenshots in a higher resolution and then scale them down to eliminate the pixelated edges. if it's the image quality (i did see some compression there), you need to start taking your shots with the "poster" console command. the way the command works is that you give it a numerical value, eg. "poster 1", and that number determines how big the shot you take is. for example, "poster 2" gives you your screenshot in twice the size of your set resolution, "poster 4" four times the size, and so on. they appear in the screenshots folder as PNG files, meaning any JPEG compression is completely eliminated. then you open the PNG in Photoshop, GIMP or other such image editing program and save it as a JPEG at full quality, without compression and without any optimizations. using the number scaling feature you can also take a really big shot and then scale it down to a more manageable resolution - this helps smooth out any jagged edges that would result from lack of anti-aliasing.
I actually had no idea about this, thanks for telling me.
nice scenebuild i recomend you use the stacker tool to increase the scene patterns of the props. when you cant use soft lamps the better in case to represent the light coming from the wall is place some of tha glowing lamps to create a rim around the character and give a soft ilumination in the sand
Okay, first of all I did use stacker for the walls of say the base in the back, then I just simply rotated them slightly to make it look like the base was falling apart, unfortunately I can't use stacker for effects, so the sand was built piece by piece, it would help if I had the snow hill props from the Mask's pack but I can't find which update pack the props are from, but as for the soft lamps technique, I'll try it.
