I've been thinking about making a thread to document my progress on a DIY airsoft flamethrower project but none of the current subforums feel appropriate. It's not science, and it's not exactly a firearm.
A general Hobbies subforum would be neat for threads that don't fall into the current subforums and would feel out of place just thrown into GD.
Some threads that would be appropriate in the Hobbies subforum:
Thrift Shopping & Antiquing V2
Patch General v1
Books
Gardening Hobby Thread
The Amazing Aquarium Thread
Watches / ~a naked wrist is opportunity missed~
It would boost community unity being able to find other FPers with similar interests (outside of video games) and users could make separate individual threads sharing their collections, projects, etc.
I was thinking of this. I was wondering if Creationism Corner fits into this. Whether it should be a root forum for all these other subforums.
That's definitely a good point, though some hobbies aren't particularly "creative" (airsoft, patch collecting, etc) so a subforum name change might be appropriate.
Some Creationism Corner threads like the 3D Printing, Writing, Cosplay, and Photography threads are more "creative" hobbies though too.
I love the idea. I feel like it's one of the few things missing right now. Other than that, how does an airsoft flamethrower work.
Can I suggest if we do we put the firearms forum in there? It's kind of dead there and very lonely.

You basically pass high-pressurized air through a special block with holes cut out in it, the "vortex" of air sucks BBs from a reservoir and out a barrel at a really fast rate.

That's actually kinda awesome. How about we secretly use this thread so you can post some pics of your progress until we get a subforum for it. I'm quite interested.
I agree with this, it's becoming increasingly difficult to find the Thrift thread.

Hobbies subforum would be cool, but I don't think it should be smashed together with Creationism Corner. There's a ton of divisions to be made between the two of them as is, and not every Hobby is necessarily art. People going to either are probably gonna be looking to see different things.
