H3VR is typically considered one of the best firearm-centric games for VR right now, if not the best, due to the depth of controls and mechanics it offers the player, a significant array of options, tons of customization, and a great attention to detail. LATEST CONTENT UPDATE As of the making of this OP, Anton has been focusing his efforts on revamping the entire recoil and audio system for the game. This means that when the system will be completed, everything in the game with have new sound effects, properly designed procedural reverb (instead of a prebaked echo sound) and firing guns will have much more plausible wander and recoil. Besides this, Anton has also released an April Fools update which includes a cardboard Deagle and a massively oversized 1911 which is surprisingly fun to use. Additionally, there is a new level called the Sample Platter which is designed as an entry-level tutorial to get a better understanding of basic gun mechanics. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Does it run well ? It runs very well on most VR-capable hardware although it may require some moderation on the user's part. Physics simulations can be rather taxing and mounting a ton of attachments onto single gun can cause issues. How "Early" is this Early Access ? By now, H3VR is full of content although it cannot be considered "finished". There is an extra subset of versions which players can opt in which have additional betas for bugtesting and alphas which are truncated and showcase very early WIPs for those who can't wait. Alpha versions are to be avoided if your bandwidth is rather limited as they involve a LOT of extra downloads on a semi frequent basis. Are there, or will there ever be any human enemies ? No. Anton has expressed in multiple occasions his unwillingness to add any sort of realistic human enemies in the game. It is supposed to be a celebration of sports shootings and by making all enemies literal sausages that explode on impact the game dodges a significant amount of potential backlash and becomes far more kid friendly. Is the game difficult to control ? Yes and no. Weapons fall in broad categories which all share a common control scheme, bar a few exceptions. There is certainly a steep learning curve in terms of first getting a hold of the different guns. There are basic instructions displayed ingame when using the item spawner, a tutorial level is in the works, and there is a series of updated instructional videos on the official YT channel. Is it an actual game or just an "experience"/tech demo ? It's an actual game. H3VR has a decent chunk of levels which all have their own gimmicks - some are just basic shooting ranges, but most have some kind of extra activity tied to them, and they don't necessarily revolve simply around shooting everything. Is the game worth 20$ ? If you want to mess around with guns, absolutely. The game gets updates on an extremely frequent basis, Anton is a veteran developer who is dedicated and passionate about his job, and there is no shortage of content to already enjoy. Is x weapon going to be in the game ? If Anton can get his hands on a good model, maybe it will. There are some guns that aren't likely to appear at all (the Kolibri being a notable meme on the H3VR discord), but the developer is always looking to expand the amount of firearms available. Also important is that Anton is sometimes donated weapon models to use, some of which were designed by Facepunch regulars such as asXas. What are the locomotion options ? Is it a comfortable game ? H3VR has most of the more common locomotion methods available: teleportation, slide, touchpad locomotion, and even armswinger. It also has a couple of extra comfort options related to players working with a 180° system. Wonderful! I can't wait until all the levels are back in, I'm just itching to shoot some hotdogs with the new guns. I hope the house one gets some work, proper room breaching and stuff could be a lot of fun.
Found this really fiddly. Especially using ironsights.. I'm hoping the Vive Pro makes things better.
According to the developer, the Vive Pro's resolution increase is a big improvement in H3VR's gun sight profile. He demoed the game using the Vive Pro at GDC last month. Also, all of you that own this game, you should try the alpha branch on Steam. The completely reworked sound and recoil systems along with other improvements make the guns much more satisfying overall.
Yeah @gwilty just got one and said it's a big difference. I'm waiting until I move house to get one.
I have noticed a very specific thing with ironsights and how to make them usable with the regular vive. If you try out the Sako and do some shots in Friendly .45 at 100 meters - you're going to have a bad time. If you use the Mosin/Enfield at the same scenario - it's shoot-able and fun. Why ? The front post on the rifle ( the grain ) is too small for the vive to render it properly which causes it to be a spec on the lens. If only he widened it to the same proportions of the mosin, then it'd be good shooting. Also there is the thing about using a night post style sighting ( the glowing sights ) because they cause a reference to position the grain with the sight.
I just use optics on all my guns to alleviate the issue.
Try hitting anything with the tiny Walther PPK sights. I dare ya.
Buying+switching into a full Vive Pro set for ~1400€ just for the HMD resolution increase would not be worth it at all in my case. Waiting for true gen 2 headsets to come out in 2019 instead, since the Pro is more of a gen 1.5 upgrade I currently have a 3-sensor roomscale (2.5x2m) Rift setup with extension cables and it works great.
I just wish Anton would finish the existing game modes instead of making a new one every few months There's a bunch of interesting modes that have been stuck in WIP limbo for... years by now
So long as he pushes more things for Take And Hold like he said he would, I'd be happy. As much as I love pissing about with H3VR as a gun simulator, that bit's the only real "game" part I like.
Yeah i'd love more polish on Take And Hold, that's pretty much the only thing i do in the game now. Not that i dont like the other parts.
It's gonna be updated soon.
I've had no problem hitting the furthest target on friendly 45 with most ironsights, never held a gun in my life. Must have a steady hand. It's blurry at that distance but you can still tell when it's centered. Are you keeping both of your eyes open?
No, why would I. Also this isn't about MOST ironsights. It's about specific weapon ironsights that are so thing they blur with the surrounding areas in VR. Specifically - Kar98k, Sako and the PPK.
Because you can see the sight and the target behind it and with after getting used to it your brain will correctly project the target picture from your secondary eye onto your dominant eye's sight picture so there will be no error.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-YBpbl-2xw That sound system is awesome.
Lee Enfield mk4 is defo my favorite weapon. It's satisfying to use and easy to aim.
Anyone else feel like Anton might be the best VR dev and maybe one of the best devs period?
He's pretty great. I hope that Take and Hold is updated soon, he teased those new level parts and I've been itching for more content in it.
I caved and couldn't wait for the Alpha to go live, so I signed up for the Alpha Branch. The new sounds are gorgeous, I played a bit of Arena and that was so fun. Cannot wait for T&H update. Not too fussed on the Sampler Platter scene but understand this was for GDC etc.
I'm a bit underwhelmed with the recoil in the beta, it works fantastic for rifles but auto pistols for example you can fire one handed full auto with an acceptable grouping if you just tilt your gun downwards by like 30 degrees, so it's less like being hard to control and more about guessing your aiming angles. Feels off.
I think they cap off somewhere so you don't get Onward esque shooting yourself in the face. In my opinion I feel like super high RoF pistols or things that bring recoil almost to the roof should make you drop the gun, or something of the sort, rather than a gun hand that does 360 degrees from recoil.
Well you'll both be glad to know T&H is back in the alpha, alongside a new version of the grenade launcher. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-fnhhPiviA
New T&H is so much better. The new sounds, the more active bots, better balancing, and the larger/updated loot table make it even more fun than it used to be.
I'd like to see a more open map, or at least not have 90% of areas being a tiny corridor, sometimes it feels like you have no breathing room and just have to nail bots as they conga line within sight or you're screwed Especially if you get shitty loot, earlier I had to fend off a swarm of bots with gold armor using a .45 and a bolt action rifle. I don't want to resort to cheesing the AI.
At least you didn't get this fucking thing, blackpowder breechloading pistol https://horobox.co.uk/u/H3RL65.jpg Later I got this thing though, dunno what the fuck it is but it was full-auto https://horobox.co.uk/u/8PA7Uu.jpg

The way armored enemies work in H3VR is super annoying right now and I hope he reworks them. Having this massive arsenal of cool weapons only for a type of enemy to just eat all sorts of damage unless the physical projectiles hits on a very specific part is so fucking annoying, half the time I stop playing T&H because these cunts start showing up, long before I even start losing or struggling to keep up.
Surprise! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IEoNa19LNQ&t=0s Playing on human health makes the bots not soak tons of bullets anymore. Can't wait for those new level pieces that were teased eons ago. I'm going to binge this so hard after they're in.
