Unless you live down under of course, then sorry you're getting winter soon. Discuss all things motorbike! Here's my current bike, Suzuki GW250. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/8ce81f53-86ac-4452-b60c-145263e7a3e2/29872855_10211786725803680_9193553667061698107_o.jpg
Had the bike out a month ago and now I'm wiping snow off my car in the morning. This weather is fucking with me hardcore
I just bought a set of hondaline saddlebags from a guy on the cx500 forum. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/185250/1ffb624c-e375-4582-85ed-9e78a65ff531/image1.jpeg I already have two bags like this, but theyre in pretty shit shape and painted with bedliner. In the effort to shiny up my bike, Ill put these on, repaint the side covers, and be good to go basically. Aside from that, Im actively working on fixing up a 83 GL1100 right now, so theres that too. Huh, theres like 4 applicable places to post about the GL now. This is fuckin annoying.
They desire warm weather, they must be appeased. https://i.imgur.com/lpdGT2j.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MqI6kyu.jpg
Yo motorcycle guys I'm curious what's your opinion on loud pipes?
I prefer pipes to be honest, tbh. If you got a 250 you shouldn't drown out an 1100 because you have a headpipes delete, but if you're riding with a 4-cyl engine that puts compact cars to shame, by all means let the world know
Im all for loud pipes. My CX has harley mufflers with the crosspipe cut out, and it screams like a molested cheetah when you give er the twist.
Annoying. Hate them. My Yamaha has the baffles removes and it's such a racket. Whenever I see 60 year old men riding Harleys that deafen me as they pass on the freeway it just reminds me of children. Put an exhaust on your bike, sure.. it's great if it has some noise to it. But the ones that are so loud the entire neighborhood hears when they fire up at 6am to meet the other crusty men at a greasy spoon for their hog fest leather jerk off session.. "GROW UP"
I mean, the goldwing is fuckhueg isn't it? Totally justifiable to me lol
Don't own one but I wish I did for utility reasons: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/109874/1b8fd897-612d-45b2-8d5a-bf8bf09bb4cd/image.png M-motherfuckin'-72. Pinnacle of "How do I move several hundred to thousand troops cheaply as fuck without trains or troop carriers?". Honestly something about how utilitarian it is is just memorizing.
that one was a 1 liter in a flat four That thing made some juuuuuicy noises. Im almost sad that Im putting good condition stock exhaust on my fiances 1100.
I'm not a fan of the stupidly loud straight pipes that some cruiser riders have, jfc they are ridiculous. But there's nothing like a well setup exhaust system that while loud, is still within legal limit and sounds awesome.
Was it sun all day yesterday for everyone else here in the UK because it was where I am. Took the opportunity straight away to go out for a ride. Sadly it was cloudy all day today although at the very least it didn't rain once. On the subject of loud pipes I love the sound of bikes and whilst I do think they are awesome when loud out of respect for home owners, people working and other motorists in general I don't like it when people ride around with obnoxiously loud pipes.
Have a picture my girlfriend took with her iPhone while I was riding. Did 200 miles (322km) of riding today along with two rollercoaster parks. I am absolutely knackered https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/110137/a6551901-9768-4566-ad19-2a8253ec7d51/IMG_8596.JPG
Was going to test ride bikes today to find something cool (and cheap) but think I've missed my chance. Weather's gone straight to shit. It's not even winter yet and the weather's fucked.
I love test riding things. I'm toying with the idea of a second bike with no real idea of exactly what I want so I've been trying a bit of everything. Last week I tried a Triumph Scrambler, next I'm going to try a KTM Duke 390. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57957/1f96e805-cb16-4814-b120-9125ea018441/2018-04-11 15.04.58.jpg
Man, second day riding portion of my BRC was canceled and rescheduled for the Saturday after next. I wouldn't even want to ride in this shitbowl weather of sleet and snow, and in the coming weeks we're supposed to see 50-60 degree weather.. but I still want my stupid endorsement right this moment :c Felt kinda foolish with all my gear at the class when most of the people were just rocking helmets, maybe a leather jacket, basic boots and work gloves but, ah well. Anyways, I've got a question for you smart lads that I might crosspost to the regular AA thread. I've been working on a bike for the past ~4 years (see also: storage), and back in the day cheapass me chopped the exhaust from an 18 inch can down to a 10 inch can, and pulled the baffles out in favor of a 1.5" perforated pipe and kinda loosely wrapped glass mat. Unsurprisingly, it's stupid noisy. Still, I kind of want to save the cans because I don't want to drop a grand on new ones. If I size down to say, a 1" perforated pipe, wrap it tightly with steel wool mat and then a full 2-3 inches of tightly wrapped glass mat, think I can get it to not split pedestrian eardrums?
You won't when you get to keep all your skin when you come off. Road rash is nasty.
Can confirm, have come off a bike and it hurts like a cunt. Doing only 40km/h and I came off not wearing riding pants, Day after crash(HIGHLY NSFW): https://imgur.com/JrJbXXB 1 and a half years later: https://imgur.com/NApeanS
I remember when I first did my CBT and I had my helmet, gloves and jacket sorted but no armoured trousers or boots. It was my first time riding a motorbike on the road and going 50mph in just thin jeans my legs felt so vulnerable. Despite this however it wouldn't be 4 months into commuting to work each day that I finally went out and bought some armoured trousers and boots. Ever since I have always ridden full gear regardless of weather. I too got a helmet cam recently. I posted about it in the auto general thread but I now have it on the helmet. https://i.imgur.com/iSln10E.jpg Went out for a few rides to test it and have used it whilst commuting and the quality is great. I even managed to catch something mildly interesting. Was wondering what all the traffic was for until I saw the police car and mangled front end of that car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhItaa4wsfs&feature=youtu.be
Oh cool you got the exact same helmet cam as me, got a prime deal on Amazon for £100 and was fedup with the shitty quality of my old one seen below. At least I can record for more than 29 minutes now too! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdmpyeTBY5k&t=167s
Decided I didn't really need to see the rev counter so I could mount my gopro there, my poor old hero 3 more resembles your old one animosus. Also it would appear it picks up an irritating resonance around 4k RPM on the bars. https://youtu.be/VM38e9Gqsps
Is that a GS500 that you are riding? I noticed that when I attached my phone and used it as a dash cam back when I owned one in Australia, same RPM and all. Quality doesn't look that bad though, but damn is the hero 3 dated now, I had one years ago!
Slightly bigger... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/57957/cc8def0c-603a-44b6-9299-40e4a8f9fb74/2017-08-13 09.57.29.jpg
Oh yeah only slightly... Gauges look nearly identical from that angle though!
Yeah, it was one of a number of concious design choices to try and make it look as similar to the 1959 edition http://www.classic-british-motorcycles.com/images/59Triumph-Bonneville-R.jpg Eg those carb bodies on mine actually have fuel injectors hidden in them and there's a radiator but its virtually invisible. The pipes that are visible on mine are actually a disguise, the true pipes run inside them but under the bike drop into a cat and back out again rather than the apparent straight through to the silencer.
I actually really like the idea of the old style bikes with modern engineering and tech advancements in them, not that I'd own one personally but it's one thing that motorbike manufacturers can get away with that car makers can't
Yeah I got it because of the amazon deal as well. Also it's probably worth mentioning that footage isn't how it looks straight off the camera I did a little colouring alteration in Davinci Resolve. By that I mean I went into the colour tab and selected my helmet as the dark point and the blue sky as the light point and it did the rest. It does a pretty good job for an automated process.
Welp, it was inevitable but it finally happened. I dropped the bike today . I arrived at the bike shop to have new chain and sprockets put on. After chatting with the guys for an hour, my turn comes and I go get the bike to bring it inside as usual. There were a bunch of customer bikes scattered around in front and so I very slowly weaved between them at like 5mph but since I was lazy, I wasn't dabbing my feet and instead just held both feet on the pegs. As I go to perform a sharp turn for the double doors, I cut it close to another bike, tap the brakes too hard and lose all momentum. I was able to plant my right foot down but since I was on a decline combined with a bit of gravel, I feel my foot slide a tad and before I know it I am sleeping on the asphalt with my bike. Somehow, the bike made it out with only two minor scratches on the brake lever and mirror, both of which were already roughed up to begin with. Brake cantilever is scuffed, totally livable. IMG_20180418_181336.jpg CRG Lanesplitter mount is scuffed, totally livable. IMG_20180418_181342.jpg Exhaust and tank totally intact, no scratches or dents somehow... I don't even understand myself. IMG_20180418_181318.jpg The hero in its finest hour. The fork slider had a small scuff as well as the rear swingarm slider, but this was by far the hardest hit. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F7AOeZ--f8qGLEJtQIzL1klF6FJ9jWPu/view?usp=sharing All I can say is, BUY FRAME SLIDERS! If helmets, leather, and pads is armor for the rider, then frame/fork/swingarm sliders are armor for your bike. The goddamn Speedymoto frame, fork, and swingarm sliders literally saved this bike from suffering what would essentially be a $3k+ loss ($1.5k for the exhaust, $1k for a new OEM tank WITHOUT paint, $1k for a new clutch assembly and pressure plate if it all got crushed, lord knows what else) and turned it into something that is completely negligible.
Ain't no biggie man, everyone has a parking lot drop from time to time. I can't count the amount of times I dropped the KLR standing still because it was so damn tall and had an 11 gallon tank. When I bought my first bike (Ninja 250), I dropped it while rolling backward out of my driveway for the first time and was't used to it. Started to fall over between my legs and I basically held it so it hit the ground slowly. Picked it back up... and immediately dropped it again on the other side. Oh, then there was the time when the XV750 had a bad ignition switch, so I shorted the starter relay with a screwdriver to fire it up, and uh, forgot it was in gear. Thing bucked forward and since I wasn't on it, tipped right over into a coworker's car. Spent $350 buying him a new, painted fender and installing it. Dropped the VT750 one time while wrapping up a garden hose. Thing caught the front wheel and the whole bike just lurched onto its side. All your pics just look like regular wear and tear to me! That kinda stuff is just bound to happen. Hell, my friend's dad dropped his FZ6R while maneuvering around all our bikes just a couple weeks ago, his foot slipped off the curb into mud and he went down FAST.
