There should be an option to hide the subsection-specific forums when browsing the general section so that it doesn't clutter the whole place.
If I want to see these specific threads I'd rather go directly to the subsection. I don't like the clutter, so I'd appreciate being able to simply filter it out.
I'd make the argument that the root forum encompasses the child content, is not exclusive to it. The way to cut out clutter is to enter a child forum, not its parent.
Or you could give users more options and do both.
I'd argue that the threads that don't fall under a child forum will get less exposure from the rest of the threads in the root forum. Hypothetically if a child forum somehow gets very big with lots of active threads the threads in the root forum will get drowned.
From what I can tell, the difference is that we now have like 5 minor Overwatch threads, for example, cluttering the general games sections instead of one Overwatch thread that contained all Overwatch content. Since I have no interest in Overwatch, that's 5 times the clutter than before.
I'm going to add an autoban on the word "clutter". You guys think that threads in a forum are "clutter"?
You don't want to see these game threads in a game forum?
for example:
I don't care about tf2 and I would never click on the 5 tf2 threads that are on the first page of the general games forum right now so would prefer to not look at them so I can see more of the content I care about
But if we didn't have subforums, and there were five tf2 threads, what would you do?
I'd rather have the TF2 threads be put in their own TF2 section and those threads not be seen in general games discussion where they don't belong.
maybe i'm just having an adverse reaction to this because these new changes are enticing users have this crap in the games forum:

I guess you could just block the link with UOrigin or something
Just look at General Discussion to see what it looks like when a couple of subforums gain traction with their threads reported to the parent section.
It becomes impossible to navigate because 90% of it is from those subsections.
the various game subforums feel like places where you could ask small questions in their own threads without inconveniencing anyone. this is a great use of having many specialized subforums but then dumping all of their contents into one bigger bowl can make things a mess.
I like the idea of subform content being mixed with their parent forum, but only on my terms.
So what exactly are you going to do about games or series without a subforum? Are you just going to let them get hidden by the vast amount of subforum threads?
The number of active threads in the games forum makes it completely unmanageable to find threads for games that don't have their own sub. You have to check back pages and pages, wading through really specific forums like TF2 screenshots and Overwatch Tips and Tricks and "Whose your favorite mario princess". This is fine when it's a game that has its own subforum and you can just click one link to enter that sub, but a complete mess to navigate if you're looking for a smaller game that only has one thread and no subforum. How is the Dwarf Fortress thread supposed to get attention if it can be posted in every day and still end up on page 3? If the plan is to encourage people to make even more threads for specific games (which is a good idea on its own, encourages more discussion and I think there's definitely room for more, say, overwatch threads for example), then browsing GGD to find new interesting games will involve hunting through 5+ pages of threads. TF2 has its own subforum, if I want to look at TF2 content I'll click the TF2 subforum. It's not like it won't get attention, it's right there featured prominently. Sticking all those threads in with general games is making it a lot harder to find new game threads though, or even just to find threads you've posted in before but don't have their own sub.
I don't care about TF2 threads, so when I click on the "Games" subforum, I would like to be able to see more non-TF2 threads, but those take a lot of space actually.

All this does is make it a pain to find threads that DON'T have their own subforum. It doesn't look good and if I wanted to see threads from these, I'd enter the subforum for it.
It just didn't happen before. Most of the people would post in the general thread. All these extra threads are either single questions or junk that most people don't care about anyway. As of this post, the first page of games has the following TF2 threads:
CONTRAS TIPS AND TRICKS FOR SUFFERING AS THE SPY CLASS
The soldier thread
Extra Ram's Workshop Thread
Boot Thread
Heavy's left eyebrow thread
Tumblr Vs. Reddit Tournament Medal Thread
TF2 Emporium 66
TF2 General Chat
Heavy's Right eyebrow thread
Engie's bald head thread
Valve SFM remakes thread
The heavy thread
Left 4 Dead thread
Favorite voiceline thread
The TF2 thread
The guard dog thread
The scout thread
The hat thread
The chemist thread
That's ALL on the first page, and the large majority is joke/troll threads. If that's not clutter, then I don't know what is.
IMO, it was also nice to follow all the discussion on a game through one thread, but that's more of my preference. I can see how people would prefer to have smaller, more specific threads instead.
It essentially feels like each topic was given its own subforum, but the "other topics" subforum for some reason now contains each other subforum's topics for no reason.
I can get behind the basic idea but not having a way to view specifically the threads from the root forum is definitely an issue with current functionality since you can already do that for any threads in one of the subforums.
in all honestly why would you even want to see tagged threads if you're looking at the general games board.
unless users are able to create their own tags, or one is generated once a thread gains enough traction, or mods auth them, i doubt how each new game relased with a decent ammount of discussion is going to gain people's attention once the older, more popular threads push it back due to them gathering more active people.
